being   at   home   felt   heavy   ,   like   hannah’s   ghost   had   been   sitting   on   his   shoulders   at   every   moment   .   he   sunk   into   his   bed   most   nights   ,   stared   at   the   ceiling   and   wished   for   his   door   to   open   in   the   slightest   ,   if   only   to   see   hannah   walking   through   .   sometimes   it   was   gen   ,   but   most   times   it   was   a   hallucination   .   a   delusion   he’d   painted   for   himself   within   his   own   mind   .   when   she   answers   ,   his   eyes   move   towards   the   clock   and   kels   figures   it   couldn’t   hurt   to   stay   out   longer   than   intended   .   it   wasn’t   out   of   character   for   him   and   questions   wouldn’t   be   asked   .   as   long   as   he   sent   an   update   to   his   mother   and   gen   ,   he   supposed   he   was   fine   to   do   whatever   he   needed   in   order   to   feel   okay   again   .   and   her   question   comes   next   ,   makes   kels’   head   whip   back   towards   the   mathers   girl   as   a   small   smile   threatened   to   twitch   at   the   corner   of   his   lips   .   it   wasn’t   often   anymore   that   he   stuck   to   plans   .   he   hadn’t   seen   his   friends   in   a   week   ,   hadn’t   even   attempted   to   make   any   sort   of   appointment   with   anyone   .   meeting   with   a   therapist   once   a   week   didn’t   count   ,   either   ,   because   he   didn’t   even   talk   to   taylor   when   he   was   in   her   office   .   he   just   stared   at   the   clock   until   she   allowed   him   to   leave   .   ❛   yeah   .   yeah   ,   i   mean   . . .   if   you   want   to   ,   of   course   .   that’d   be   great   . ❜   kels   didn’t   know   what   they’d   do   or   where   they’d   go   ,   but   anywhere   was   better   than   home   .   besides   ,   this   might   have   been   his   one   chance   to   get   to   know   quinn   better   ,   and   he   already   felt   strongly   about   not   messing   it   up   .

           all   hunter   can   really   do   is   laugh   at   the   willingness   of   his   brother   ,   or   the   wait   for   an   inevitable   downfall   for   the   younger   .   joined   at   the   hip   for   such   a   long   time   ,   a   reflection   of   one   another   and   arguably   a   terrible   role   model   ,   hunter   attempts   to   keep   matt   in   line   –   but   if   he   couldn’t   succeed   near   enough   all   the   time   ,   he   wouldn’t   trouble   himself   that   much   .   after   all   ,   in   the   emmons   family   ,   the   apple   didn’t   entirely   fall   too   far   from   the   tree   .   a   repetition   of   behaviour   ,   model   of   influence   and   whatever   in   between   ,   if   it   stuck   ,   it   stuck   ,   and   the   male   doesn’t   seem   positive   of   apologising   yet   ;   let   alone   fixing   whatever   his   brother   did   .    ❛    yeah   ,   i   do   .   you   were   the   talk   of   the   town   for   that   little   stunt   .    ❜    spoken   with   jest   ,   laughter   falling   from   parted   lips   as   he   remembers   back   on   the   day   .   oh   how   the   power   ,   money   and   reputation   not   only   helped   ,   but   slightly   hindered   them   both   .   stuck   in   kahoots   with   half   of   the   enforcements   in   cresthill   ,   hunter   knew   deep   down   that   their   fathers   methods   weren’t   ideal   ,   but   at   least   they   worked   .   or   attempted   to   ,   anyway   .   he   just   wouldn’t   tell   him   that   when   he   was   matt’s   age   the   exact   same   thing   occurred   ,   it   just   somehow   was   ten   times   worse   then   .   hunter’s   frame   leans   effortlessly   against   the   counter   ,   a   dip   in   head   mixed   with   a   raise   in   eyebrows   to   say   he   wasn’t   joking   ,   hand   gesturing   outwards   to   the   mess   created   .    ❛    maybe   if   you   didn’t   run   the   maid   out   west   we   wouldn’t   have   this   issue   .    ❜    he   suggests   ,   dramatic   sigh   as   shoulders   fall   in   unison   .    ❛    get   cleaning   bud   ,   dad’s   home   at   five   .    ❜
