man you ever just think about how wasted angor and claire’s dynamic was
there were a lot of comparisons, connections, and hints that they were going to be important to each other’s arcs in season 1, which i thought was at least going to be important in claire’s even before we knew angor was coming back
i was fully predicting them being Antagonistic and clash a lot at first, especially if claire is in some way forced to be under morgana’s service and trying to fight or get around it; but i was assuming a situation where angor is supposed to teach her how to use magic–dark magic, specifically–and also serve as her bodyguard while she’s still coming into her powers. by the end of it, they’d have actually bonded and come to an understanding; for one thing because they can both relate to being enslaved, having their bodily autonomy taken away, and being forced to be someone else’s tool (morgana’s in particular). for another, they’re both resourceful, quick thinkers who are/were protective of the people they cared about and willing to take huge risks for them, she’s able to take him in a fight one-on-one, they both have a frighteningly deep well of anger to tap into, like… there’s a lot there, dude! holy shit!
angor could have been initially a mentor/guiding figure for claire, until she outstrips his teaching (because she is a rapid as hell learner and is also implied to have much more raw, inborn magic at her disposal than he does, even borrowed from morgana). at that point, where she’s starting to come into her own and realize that if anything she has power over him (after having had a lot of conflict with him all this time over being treated like a stupid, naive, idealistic child with no idea what she’s up against)… she has to come face to face with the fact that she is capable of terrible things, monstrous things, of committing atrocities and overriding the free will of others, because it’s what she thinks should be done and she can. she has to face not only that she’s physically capable of it, but it’s tempting.
imagine claire realizing how frighteningly easy it would be to turn into another morgana, if she doesn’t commit herself to using the skills and gifts she has for good. imagine a huge part of what brings her to that point being–after having learned more about what angor’s been through and what morgana did to him–the realization that, more and more, she is in a position to do the same thing now and is highly tempted to do so.
imagine her being the one goddamn person in this series to care about angor and have any compassion for him at all. imagine her being the one who holds him accountable for choosing to do better, instead of jim, and how much more of an impact it would have with them knowing and relating to each other strongly. imagine them finally coming to respect each other as equals, not a stupid child or a servant.
imagine claire’s friendship with angor being what makes her catch herself teetering on the edge and pull back, and pull him back up with her in the process.
tl;dr angor and claire would have made fantastic quarreling dark magic bros who hate each other at first and i cannot begin to tell you how mad it makes me that we didn’t get that
