look, tomorrow you will wake up and feel a bit better, a bit calmer. you are going to figure things out eventually, it dosnt have to all be done tonight. take a deep breath, relax your shoulders, and get some rest. you will manage.
How to start again ✨
delete apps and social media that lowers your mood
wear a new scent, throw away things you don’t need, delete contacts of people who make you feel unworthy, unfollow social media that makes you feel bad in any way
make a new playlist that makes you feel confident and happy
in a journal, write down why you want to change, the traits of the person you truly want to be, the places you want to go and people that make you feel inspired
write down the things that stop you and bad habits you have, and replace those with new mindsets and habits
before you sleep, make a detailed, achievable routine for the next day, that includes everything you want to do, including activities that genuinely make you happy
try new hobbies, like baking/cooking, playing a musical instrument, making art, learning a new skill, a sport, or a new language. you can easily get free resources online
think about the ideal version of yourself. you can be like that, if you try your best and work hard.
do not overwork yourself or set overly lofty daily goals and forget to do things like drink water. make your sleep and health your number one priority.
spend less time on your phone scrolling through social media. have a method of focusing on other things, like Pomodoro method or using the Forest app.
if you can’t concentrate, commit yourself to doing it for 5 minutes. once you get into the flow it’s much easier to concentrate.
be patient and kind with yourself. it’s hard to change overnight. you’re the only one who can help change you, so be a friend to yourself.
once you start something, promise yourself you will finish it.
have new weekly routines, like going to a cafe every Wednesday afternoon or indulging in your favourite tv show every Friday night.
do not deny yourself of good things; there needs to be a balance. similarly, do not be too generous and overdo it too much.
dedicate a day to clean your room and organize your things if you feel stressed out.
it may feel scary to change, as you may feel like it’s not the real you. but you’re still you, just the best version of yourself.
have a relaxing morning routine to look forward to, like making a nice breakfast, having a skin care routine, stretches, journalling, or thinking about nothing for a few minutes
have a mental image that makes you excited to do something. visualize yourself completing the goal and concentrate on it every morning.
however, learn not to rely on motivation because your brain will often turn off motivation, especially when you first begin something. have a routine, a specific time to do something, and do it.
notice the places and people that drain your energy, and try to avoid them. find people who make you feel energized and places that calm you.
think about an enjoyable part of something. for example, when studying you can look forward to learning new things and when exercising, listening to calming music or using nice stationery. it’s actually more fun than you think.
even though it’s hard, don’t compare yourself. you’re on your own path, and it doesn’t matter if people are better than you, because there will always be someone better than everyone. don’t be afraid to suck. so draw badly, write bad poems, run slowly, make embarrassing mistakes and fail everything. you can’t be good at something unless you’re terrible at something first. and doing anything badly is so much better than doing nothing.
don’t tell anyone about your new beginning, just start and let the results speak for themselves.
you can change and be your ideal self. but it will be hard to do that if you don’t believe in yourself. so make sure you challenge negative thoughts telling you can’t do something. tell yourself firmly that you can do it and then prove your negative thoughts wrong.
Ways to help exam anxiety
To prevent it:
1. Don’t procrastionate
2. Make a clear, realistic plan - in my experice it is better it is better to make a broad plan when you are going to study something and then plan day by day. Make a to do list a day before with a few main tasks. It is better to sort of underestimate yourself and then do more if you can
3. Plan breaks and fun activities so you have something to look forward to
4. Examine your former mistakes - before exam season, think about times you when you felt really stressed and anxious and try to figure out the reasons for why and prevent them this time. Also think of times when you weren’t anxious before an exam and try to figure out what you did right that time
In the moment if you are feeling overwhelmed:
1. Meditation - there is a lot of guided meditation apps out there, my favourite is Headspace, as well as tons of videos on youtube. Regular guided meditation can help you learn how to be more mindful and calm
2. Call someone - and importantly talk about something that doesn’t cause you anxiety
3. Exercise - it releases endorphenes
4. Drink tea - something that my botany professor thaught us was to not underestimate the power of plants. Some teas that are proven to ease anxiety and stress are: peppermint tea, rose tea, lavander tea and chamomile tea
5. Play a short game - any game that will get your mind of it for a while. My mom told me that when she younger and was going through a really hard time she spwnt a lot of time playing tetris. Any game that doesn’t require you to think is a good choice. I literaly play dress up games and old barbie.com games because they bring me back to a simpler time and make me think of my childhood
Take care of yourself and don’t feel guilty for thaking steps to care for your mental health.
6. Paint your nails, have a facial, do your make up, clean you room- again, so you focus on something else for a while
7. Recognise your dark thoughts and imagine them as a spiral, going into a dark depths of an ocean and imagine yourself swimming out of it - sounds dumb but it works
Happy studying!

Tips on how to make one
My 2019 resolutions:
Eat healthier
Save more money
Make my time useful
Unfollow people who make me feel bad
Tips:
Connotations: Use words with a positive connotation. Save money vs Dont spend money
Realities: Set realistic goals. Don’t make a resolution that you will make 100k in the year when you don’t have a job. Set smaller goals so you will be satisfied.
Try to make the resolution encourage yourself to become better for your future
Get rid of toxicity: Unfollow that bully, ignore that blog, end the friendship–do whatever you need to make yourself feel better
Do things for yourself: That doesn’t mean be selfish, but think of yourself. If you think that you will want to be home while you are at that party, say no to going! If you think that you might like that party, but your friends weren’t invited, go!
Remember. Think realistically then set your goals. Happy (early) New Year!
a list of untradtional study tips
buy new/pretty stationery; i love buying new pens and notebooks so much that i’ll easily get through re-writing notes i had been putting off
create a few study playlists; since instrumental/classical music helps improve brain functioning, have a selection of ones you like, but also add in the odd soft lyrical song. take a break every time a song with lyrics comes on and work during the instrumentals. it should be in a 5:1 ratio (instrumental:lyrical) that way you will work for 20-30 minutes with a 5 min break
make your study space smell good; light a candle, or a smell that you enjoy, try to use the same scent every time to trigger memory recollection. mint and vanilla are my favs!
write down how much time you spend studying for a test and then the grade you got; then you can figure out how time you really need to spend to get a good grade. this will help you use your time more effectively
read over your notes before you sleep; this allows for neuron to be killed and myelin pathways to be made! which means learning and understanding, yay!
get done up; you don’t always need to study in comfy clothes, putting on makeup and a nice outfit can put you into a ‘let’s get shit done’ mood
make you notes pretty; it’s more visually interesting to study and can me more fun to write and make, which helps you learn while you write them!
the studious reader: reads in coffe shops and at the library, drinks lots of lattes, takes the best pictures, lives for the aesthetic, blankets and cozy outfits and candles are a priority no matter the place and time of year or day, probably a literature student or in a social sciences field, tabs, comes up with the weirdest and most detailed theories
the chaotic reader: reads four books at once, regularly forgets characters’ names, crazy reading habits, reads mostly late at night or for unhealthy stretches of time, eats snacks or bites nails while reading, had an intense reading phase around the year 2014 and feels very nostalgic about that, passionate and outspoken
the summer reader: reads outside, wears sunglasses and sits directly on the ground to read, plays with sand or grass while reading, gets bored if the story is stalling or running in circles but otherwise gets easily lost in a book, likes a sweet drink or a nice cup of tea, unapologetically reads bad chick lits, plot over prose, tropes are friends
the addicted reader: reads on the bus in bed on a chair in class at work in the bath whilst walking, would read in their sleep, wears headphones to impede social interactions, owns the largest and most eclectic collection of books, refuses to think about the library of alexandria, picky and generally hard to please, likes to keep their favorite copies freakishly clean
