Days of Dust // Andy and Ryan
Andy sipped on his drink as Ryan spoke. The more Andy drank, the easier it was to drink more, he found, and he liked the way he was feeling more and more relaxed. It made him feel less concerned about every single detail, about all the stress that had been plaguing him the past week. He didnât really care anymore, about watching his words or trying to appear âcoolâ to Ryan. It was easier to just relax, and talk, than to worry about everything.
âIâm sorry to hear about that.â Andy said, when Ryan mentioned he wasnât happy about his job. Andy raised his drink to Ryan in a toast and said, âto our crappy jobs, and the hope that weâre working some place better.â He finished his drink after he spoke, his posture getting more relaxed as he set the bottle on the bar.
Andy gave Ryan a smile, as he asked if he needed another drink. âPerfect timing.â He said with a chuckle. âYeah, Iâm just going to get another beer.â He added, before turning to Ryan. âHave you had any luck with love?â Andy asked with a teasing voice, not wanting to push Ryan but feeling curious.
Ryan laughed at Andy's toast. "C'est la vie," Ryan said. "Such is life, right?" Ryan raised his glass anyway and toasted to worthy cause. It was all his fault he stayed here though. His sisters moved on to their own jobs, one in California the other in New York. His brother even moved away with his mother but Ryan stuck around in the only place he knew. He was ready for a new place, new people, new adventures. Something to get him out of this rut.Â
Ryan laughed out loud at Andy's question. "Love! Yeah, sure." Ryan scoffed. "It's not really my thing," Ryan explained. He scrunched his nose up comically like he couldn't bare to think about it. "I mean for some people sure. Me, not really." Ryan thought about it for a while. "I mean maybe one day." He paused and thought about it again. "I'm not getting any younger though, right?"
