Ryan Ross Archive

Ryan Ross sometime in 1977, on tour with band Ryan Ross & The Whiskeys. The band was formed after the split of Ross' band, The Followers, however after their album release and the Diamonds and Pearls tour in the Summer of 1977, the band would unexpectedly disintegrate in September, with Ross claiming to have renounced music forever. This photo was submitted by the great-niece of a photographer who accompanied The Whiskey's on this tour.

During this time, Ross was recording with The Whiskey's for their first and only album, Wolf's Teeth, a project which arose in wake of the Follower's demise. While the band recorded, Ross performed a series of small shows in New York City, though very few photos exist from this time period.

His Side's Brendon Urie and Ryan Ross in the Summer of 1979. The pair of musicians first met on the Jackie, Me and This Lady tour in 1974, when Urie worked as a roadie for Ross' band The Followers. After Ross' sabbatical from music in 1977 and 1978, he would return to the industry to replace guitarist Ian Crawford in His Side, and would remain in the group as a key member until the band's dispersal.

After their sophomore album, Her House, was released in 1972, the band toured extensively on the festival circuit before entering the studio to record their hit record Boneless. Though this submission was undated, it is estimated to be around September/October of 1973.

Ross' band, Ryan Ross & The Whiskey's, had released their debut album Wolf’s Teeth the previous month and played three sold out shows at Madison Square Garden on this tour. However, Ross disbanded the group only three months later, claiming to have renounced music forever (though this would later be rescinded in conjunction to Ross' addition to pop band His Side).
