DJ Kool Herc
While no one can really be credited with inventing Hip Hop, he has to be one of the most influential figures out there. I'm pretty sure he was the inspiration for most of the rappers we have seen and see today. Â There would be no Tupac or Notorious BIG, and without them there would not be any of the other rappers we see today.
Holy Abstracts
So i wrote my second abstract today and oh my it was a lot harder than the first one. Â It was difficult for me because this criticisms talked about a literary concept that I wasn't entirely too familiar with, and it took me a while to understand the criticisms. Â Let alone it is hard to compress 14 pages worth of information onto a page and a half. Â But after digesting this criticism i realize how useful it is for my RP, like it gave me something so valuable to talk about
Hurston 5
I love reading this book. Â Every time i get to dialogue i immediately get this weird voice in my head that tries to talk in a deep southern accent and it is so fun. Â Regarding the characters I am not gonna lie, i kinda had mixed feelings about Janie. Â Honestly i think she is a little selfish. Â I was given that impression when she was with her first husband how she was so stubborn about not helping him. Â In reality he did want what was best for her but she could not see it because she had these idealistic images about romance and love in her head. Â I took Janie for a fool. Â However as I am reading on my feelings for her change. Â After seeing the way she gets treated she has every right to be a dreamer because frankly her life sucks. Â Â Overall i like this book
I have no idea how to even start writing this thing. I have a blank word document open and minimized. Every time I open it, I stare at the white screen and then remember the more important things in my life like Pinterest and my refrigerator. I have very little motivation to do this project. I can...
I Know what you mean. Â I told myself 3 days ago that i would start writing... but lo and behold i just started now. Â But i think that as we start it and get the momentum going, it will be easier to find motivation to do it as we go on.

DUNE ABSTRACTS
I wrote my first abstract today and boy was it hard. Â Not because writing an abstract is hard, its hard because I'm on my computer and the temptation to go on Facebook or youtube or listen to spotify is so strong. Â I told my self i would start abstracts 3 days ago but i finally started my first one today. Â
BUT EVERYONE THEY ARE NOT HARD TO WRITE AT ALL. Â I found my experience writing this first abstract easier than i expected.
It's actually very interesting writing these abstracts because when i read the criticisms i learn so much about my book. Â Being introduced to a new point of view only makes my book so much more interesting that I ALMOST want to read it again.
Kresge library getting a criticism... Way too cold outside
Dune
so i am currently trying to decide which criticisms to use for my research paper however i am just so stuck.  I have two really good articles on the a subject called "the voice".  However that is the problem, i need a third article but i cannot find one that contains the same theme.  On the other hand i  have at my disposal many criticisms that address the theme of ecology throughout the book. Also i am a bit unclear about what the criticisms can be about.  I'm pretty sure that if i were to do the criticisms that address the theme of ecology in Dune that it would be acceptable...  Also i'm not sure if the criticisms have to be the same in theme or if they can be three separate concepts.
Brave New World #4
So i’m not exactly sure what prompted me to do this but I was looking at the cover of my book and decided to google image Brave New World to look at all the different covers. I was surprised to find such a wide range of covers. Some (like the pic above) have what looks like a “soma” pill on the cover, while others have several fetuses in test tubes. The cover of my book has what look like replicated mannequins all walking in a line. I  think it’s interesting to see all the different covers because it shows how different aspects of the book are valued depending on the cover. I just attached this picture because it was my favorite cover that I saw! Anyways, I think you all should google the covers of your books too (you may be surprised by what you see)!!
this was an interesting cover that i found.  This minimalistic style really caught my attention and this was my favorite out of all of the covers i saw.  It was weird, when i looked at the other covers i was surprised to find that i didn't like them.  Most were typical 60's style covers with artwork, but  strangely they didn't appeal to me. Maybe it's because their visual adaptation of planet Arrakis is a different than my visual image and that is why I don't like the covers as much. Â
this kind of reminded me of my book with this theme of extreme loyalty to family. Â Similar to your novel, the main character Paul Attreides in my book Dune is separated from many of the loved ones in his life for several years. Â When they are finally reunited it is almost emotional because even though they have all traveled down different paths since the separation they put their old loyalty to each other first over their new lives.
I am a little sad as I have just now finished this epic poem. I thoroughly enjoyed following the path of Odysseus’ journey to get back to his wife and child. In books 21-24, Odysseus reveals himself...

I feel like i understand you in this aspect, when i jumped into my book there was a lot of context that had to be established because my book was as science fiction novel. Â But once i was able to establish that context then i was able to fully get into my story and enjoy everything
This book is so hard to get into when you haven’t read the Iliad. I tried multiple times to start reading and every time I had to start over because I couldn’t get into it. But after having reading...
Yesterday, Garrett and I went to OU’s library to find criticisms on our novels. The librarian was extremely sweet and helpful. I was surprised that everything they had on Tolkien, copies of his works, annotated editions, biographies, and criticisms, ended up being only two shelves. I expected there to be a lot more, considering how famous his works are. After a lot of reading, I found a few options. Kreinbring approved them today, so I am going into break with my novel read, criticisms found, ready to write my abstracts!
Tagged this to the wrong thing the first time I posted it, so here it is again.
I'm the same as you. Â When i went to go find criticisms on my book Dune by Frank Herbert, i was surprised that there were hardly any materials at all considering my book is considered one of the greatest science fiction books ever. Â I'm actually kind of nervous because all of the criticisms were online materials... so lord help me
Dune #6
As i reflect back on the book there was one certain element that greatly affected the reading experience. Â There are these little "historical excerpts" strategically placed throughout the book. Â
Let me try to explain. Â So picture this, you are reading the story just fine. Â Then all of a sudden there is an aside like paragraph, and the paragraph is from the perspective of a historian in the future reflecting back on the event that just happened in the plot. Â
It's unique because it adds a new perspective/opinion on the characters and situation, and also its a creative way to add foreshadowing to the plot. Â Think about it. if it is from the perspective of a future history then that historian already knows the outcome of the story that you are reading. Â This literary element that Frank Herbert chooses to include really affected his book Dune and made it a great book for me to read.
I recommend this book to everyone
Im about 60% done with the book
it is so good oh my goodness.  I can’t seem to put it down.
one problem i actually have is finding time to read it. Â IT saddens my heart to see more and more characters die. Â I am curious to see how events will play out for the Bene Gesserit boy
What about your book makes you not want to put it down? Is it the voice of the author, the themes, the characters? Since you like it so much, I am curious as to why?
for me, it is simply the plot is so interesting that I cannot wait to see what happens next. Â It is a unique story that, when paired with the author's unique way of putting a detailed image in your brain, gets the imagination pumping
i completely understand what you're talking about. Â in the beginning it was hard to get into my book because there had to be so much background information that needed to be established.. Â My best tip is to keep pushing through and eventually it will all come together
As I read more into the book I am still having issues with the characters and although the storyline is interesting, I’m having a hard time really getting into it. I like the concept of it, but as I progress, there just doesn’t seem to be anything exciting happening. It started off kind of slow and I was hoping that it was just how it started, but as i read more into it, I’m not seeing anything really happening. There are some concepts that are repeated a lot. Some of the same characters going back and saying the same things over and over again and I just feel like there is no real progression in the story so far. Im hoping that changes as i get farther in.Â

Dune #5
so there is this one scene where the main character paul duels this one freemen (native inhabitant on the planet Dune). Â After besting the freemen, Paul claims the spoils and has the option to take the freemen's wife as woman or servant. Â Idk if it was meant to be serious or not but this was so funny to me because the woman is essentially like
woman: "hey boy, i am still young *wink*"
Paul: "um.. i'll take her as servant"
woman: "BUT IM STILL YOUNG"
so to me it sounded like she is whining almost. Â Like when you call a woman old and they're like IM NOT OLD WTF
so i am reading this book dune and i reached the point where we see the first dune worm on the planet arrakis. Â For those of you who don't know, Arrakis is a sand covered planet and one of its native fauna is the majestic sand worm. Â However, its descriptive literary beauty has been spoiled because all i can picture is the alaskan bull worm from spongebob.Â
