hey all.. one of our house cats, Leo, has been getting progressively sicker over the last few weeks. last friday night (Dec. 18th 2020) while babysitting him, leo starting showing signs of a seizure (glossy eyes, heavy drooling, unresponsive) so we rushed him to the emergency vet. the vet diagnosed him with FIP, and had to hold him over the weekend in intensive care. the vet told us if we took him home, he wouldnt have lasted more than a few hours.
his owner has already been drowning in leos medical debt but wants to give leo a fighting chance. she got a hold of an experimental FIP drug, but its incredibly expensive. its an 84 day course of the drug, and the cheapest brand of it costs around 3,000$ total. she could afford about a weeks worth of it out of pocket, but its useless if leo doesnt get the full 84 days.
in some good news, he’s on day 2 of the medicine so far (Dec. 22nd 2020) and he has so much more energy already compared to the last couple weeks. before this, he spent the last week barely moving at all, breathing heavy, and didnt eat for a whole week. on 2 days of the medicine, he is up and moving again, breathing normal again, and starting to eat on his own again! we are all really hopeful right now.
