But then - why are there classic novels on her desk? My hc is that Jill does love reading, but she never really had the inclination to get into classical literature. At some point, during a a casual conversation at the work, she and Albert realize they both enjoy reading. And I think that’s where something soft could begin for Weskertine ship. Albert probably read a lot in his school and university years. But as he got older, his life became more and more consumed by work, leaving little room for fiction.So maybe they start reading something together. He revisits books he once loved. She discovers something completely new. He would definitely have more experience with classical literature and could recommend her a few things - maybe even something from French classics. In my head, Jill spent part of her childhood in Japan (there’s a small concept sketch where she’s shown with a Japanese relative she seems close to), so I imagine she’s not very connected to the French side of her heritage - but I think she would want to explore it. And somehow, books become a quiet way for her to do that.
