"We are not interested in emulating any specific thing. It’s not about trying to do the same things that have been done before. That would be a waste of time. But there is some use in working within certain traditions… in some senses you have no choice. Borges said ‘every young poet thinks of himself as Adam, naming things. The truth is that he is not Adam and that he has a long tradition behind him. That tradition is the language he is writing in and the literature he has read.’ Working outside of tradition simply for the sake of working outside of tradition is just as useless as furthering the status quo. In your own mind you are a genius, but if you’re the only one who understand’s what you’re doing, what you’re doing becomes irrelevant.
