“thank you! thank you, thank you!” she leaned over to kiss her friend’s cheek. pulling away, she smiled sheepishly and revealed the bag she’d had hidden behind her. “i might have....already bought some stuff. i want it to be hot red.”

“dye my hair for me?” xinyi asked, pout already starting to form in case dohee said no. “please please please?”

xinyi frowned at him, eyebrows furrowing together. she wasn’t planning to steal boomer. yet. “why do you think i’m going to try to keep him!” as if the gears in her brain weren’t already turning. it was probably for the best; reggie might not like dogs very much. she stopped petting boomer, reaching up instead to teasingly pet nico’s hair. “are you jealous? you’re very cute, too. not as fluffy, but you’re still cute.”

“well then, for such a huge fan, lunch is on me.” it was sweet, how excited kaori seemed. “do you want some company? i’ve got nothing to do until tonight.”

“good. great. wonderful.” xinyi meandered in further as she spoke, glancing around the room with interest. “i didn’t know you were planning on trying your hand at being an idol,” she began. “idol project, huh? that’s a bold choice.” as cocky as her words could’ve come off, she was really just curious.

xinyi had holed herself up the couch to do her research (read: watch copious amounts of tiktoks to figure out what kind of content they should be putting on their page besides videos of reggie hopping around). she hadn’t wanted to bother boyoung, so she’d moved into the living room the better part of an hour ago. when she heard footsteps, she locked her phone and popped her head out of her blanket, frowning when she saw her best friend’s demeanor. patting her lap, she opened her arms. “c’mere, baby. what’s going on?”

she couldn’t help it. animals were her weakness; she loved reggie more than her members sometimes. and to have a dog right in front of her, happily waiting to be pet? she couldn’t handle it. the rest of the world dropped out of existence for about 45 seconds. xinyi glanced up at nico when he coughed, only to turn her attention back to where it’d been within seconds. “hi, boomer! oh, you’re just so precious, i’m in love with you and your teeny, tiny little leggies!” she looked over again when he crouched down, a grin spreading across her face. “and hello to you, too, right here. i’m xinyi, it’s nice to meet you.” the quiet lasted only a moment before she started laughing. “you brought a puppy. did you expect me to ignore him to stare at you?”

“of course, who am i to deny help to a damsel in distress?” she laughed. her eyes widened a little; it was easy for her to forget sometimes that she was actually well known. the shock wore off quickly and her face broke into a grin. “please, xinyi is fine. we’re all friends here.”

contrary to what xinyi was pretty sure nico thought, she did own clothing in muted colors. she made the conscious choice to only wear obnoxiously bright outfits around him; it was fun to bother him a little here and there. ball cap secured on her head, she made her way into the park to meet him. did she know why they needed to be in a park? not really, but xinyi wasn’t the kind to argue over that. her eyes scanned the area until she noticed him waving to her. was that a dog? before she’s able to fully process, she took off running toward nico, dropping to her knees to pet the dog the second she reached him. “hi, baby! you’re so precious, where did you come from?”

she opened her closet door to dig out a jacket, smushing the phone between her ear and her shoulder. “ah ah, some things don’t change,” she laughed. “you’re the driver, i’m the dj slash navigator. i’m still in my dorm.”

“knock knock,” xinyi called toward her brother, waving at him. it hadn’t been much of a feat to get someone to tell her where the idol project participants were in their down time. she hadn’t really seen him since she’d left home years ago, though she did know he was coming to korea (courtesy of their parents on one of the few occasions she answered their calls). “how’s my darling baby brother doing?”

“what about any of this has been fair, baby?” she asks, patting doah’s hip. xinyi certainly isn’t hung up on it, but it’s the truth. “i don’t know, that weird cooking spray? deodorant? there are plenty of options if you look for them.”

“listen,” she started the second she heard the little click of seulgi answering her phone. “i know you usually call me and tell me to get dressed in the middle of the night to go out but things change.” xinyi let out a laugh. “i made a new playlist and there’s a 24 hour diner that i want to try. i need pancakes.”

when evie had time in between schedules, sometimes she liked to check in on the trainees. offer some advice, see how they’re doing.... maybe make them squirm a little. what could she say; she’s a simple girl who is very easily entertained. leaning in the doorway of the dance studio, she watched for a few minutes before making her presence known. “boo!”
