say your doctor advises you to stop hrt just before the surgery to prevent clotting. he’ll ask if it’s really, truly necessary before he relents. he almost hates it as much as you do, but he’ll take your face in his hands and try to compensate by kissing you all over, complimenting you between kisses in an attempt to make you feel better

is unreasonably clingy weeks prior to the surgery/ies. he’s trying to memorize the feeling of you in his arms but no matter how many times he holds you, it just isn’t enough! he will be very vocal about how he’s mourning the loss of close physical touch

he's already been at your beck and call before all this, so now that he has a valid reason for it, it's just 10x worse. once you’re awake after the surgery/ies, his immediate instinct, aside from tucking the wayward strand of hair behind your ear and gently caressing your cheek, is to ask if you need anything

i fear you won't be lifting a single finger while you recover. he can and WILL do everything for you because “your doctor said to keep movement at a minimum!!”

he's the one emptying out your drains and wiping you down with moist towelettes (cause you can't shower for a while) and adjusting all your pillows whenever you're sitting down. he knows that recovering from any type of surgery isn't completely painless, so he wants you to be as comfortable as possible 

he’s always checking up on you, asking if you’re feeling okay and seeing if your posture’s good. sometimes he triple checks the doctor’s instructions—especially when it comes to elevating certain body parts to keep them stable—and if he catches you in positions you shouldn’t be in, he’ll verbally guide you out of them

should bleeding happen, he will very gently clean you up, give you painkillers and water, and stay with you through the pain.  he’s dying to hold you, but he can only console you while he sits at a unreasonable distance from you

as excited as he is to hug you again after an agonizing amount of time, he’ll reacquaint you into his arms with the softest embrace </3 tight, but definitely soft because thanks to your recovery period, he’s gotten wayyy too used to barely-there touches

he audibly gasps and maybe even squeals when you tell him that you can finally get gender affirming surgery/ies. being a man of few words isn't gonna stop him from being vocal about how hyped he is for you 

if the doctor has you stop hrt for a while before surgery, he'll be bummed. he remembers when you got your first hormone vial and how you both treated it like you were unboxing a blind box, but he'll remind you that you won't look or sound any less good just because of it

he'll look through all the different kinds of equipment you need to recover, and at first he'll be a little intimidated, but that's just because he's never used or really seen them before. once he gets over the initial anxiety, he'll immediately teach himself the proper ways to use them

he loathes every second of the recovery period because wdym he's not allowed to smother you .·°՞(≧□≦)՞°·. he does that best!!

in all seriousness though, the moment you woke up after surgery, he got so so giddy. he smiled so wide his eyes disappeared. he always found you beautiful, but now that you feel more like yourself, he's even more enamoured by you

he's going to exploit the fact that you're not supposed to move too much. he will spoon feed you, or at least try to, whenever you have to eat. though he hates how he can't be his usual cuddly self with you, for the most part he's kinda happy he has an excuse to dote on you 

now that he's in charge of cooking for you, you should be… concerned for your kitchen's wellbeing. i’m not saying he'll burn it down, but i’m not saying he won't have to actively avoid burning it down either. he's not the best cook out there, but he does try his best and even consults his family for simple, healthy recipes 

he's really observant of you. whenever he notices that you're uncomfortable because of sensory deprivation—because again, you're not allowed to move much—he’ll find ways to amuse you. it'll get to a point where you and him start roleplaying with his plushies 

because he's so observant, he's quick to adjust your compression garments whenever they feel too tight. it's also because he's so observant that he was able to pick up on emptying and securing your drains relatively quickly 

the exact second your doctor gives you the green light to move however you please, he latches onto you and doesn't let go. you two are walking outside the clinic like you've been tied up in a sailor's knot and neither of you are complaining

he's somewhat normal about it when he learns that you're finally allowed to get your desired surgery/ies, but internally his heart is bursting at the seams because you've wanted this for so long

he gets all in his feelings over the fact that he's seen you in all kinds of states, and that he's about to see another: a happier, more secure you 

somehow, he's pretty casual about getting everything you need for your recovery. he's been doing this, buying or at least keeping track of things that would help with your medical transition. it's nothing new to him, but it doesn't make it any less exciting 

what he's wouldn't be casual about is if you have to stop hrt for medical reasons. even if the doctor instructed you to, it's not gonna stop the withdrawal effects, so he helps you manage them. hot flashes? he'll run cold baths for you. mood swings? he’ll choose his words more carefully. headaches? he'll offer to give you head massages

seeing you after your surgery/ies feels kinda surreal in the sense that he can't believe that something so simple, something that should be accessible to everybody, can make you so happy. he'll only be that much more determined to keep you that happy 

as a joke, he'll pretend that he'll be completely fine with not being able to be properly physically affectionate with you while you recover. loud incorrect buzzer. he won't. he'll be “forced” to wear your clothes as an alternative 

he's devastated that he can't really rest his full weight on you because it's so soothing to him, but whenever you do it with him (basically treating him like a pile of back pillows), all those complaints are out the window. he's itching to fully hold onto you, but for now, he'll have to be satisfied with having his hands on your thighs

whenever you sleep, he's determined to keep you on your back, regardless of how hard it is to sleep in that position. he is nottt about to let you get yourself an unnecessary complication

since you need to take specific measures to make sure that your parts function properly after recovering, he'll be very careful in helping you perform them. he'll have painkillers and water on standby if it gets uncomfortable, and he'll also always have a free hand for you to hold

something you two end up doing more than usual is play video games. you're not allowed to do much else, so you have to get creative. by the end of your recovery period, you've either developed an addiction to a certain game or a burning hatred for it

if you're advised to temporarily stop hrt, both you and him will get a little upset. he offers to do your shots for you when you let him, so it's become something of a bonding moment between you two. ofc he understands why it has to happen, though

will continuously remind you that you're still you despite having to give hormones a pause. no matter what you look and sound like, you're still beautiful and valid and worth looking at, and he makes it his mission to remind you of that

he may or may not have splurged on the equipment you need for your recovery… 😅 BECAUSE WHAT I-

gets so insanely cuddly the night before because he knows he won't be able to for a while </33 he's gonna miss ragebaiting you while cuddling you so fucking bad

the moment the anesthesia wears off and you open your eyes, he tears up a little. then he sees you tearing up too so now you're both crying

very thoroughly watches over you during and after your hospital stay/s. it doesn't matter if it's 2 in the morning; if you need to use the bathroom, he's going to be by your side to help you

you, him, and cold compresses end up being best friends. sometimes you'll experience a little pain and swelling where you were operated on, so him grabbing an ice pack from the freezer becomes a habit of some sort

he feels beyond honored to have known you even before the procedure/s. he tries not to get too sentimental about it considering it's all in the past—and obviously he doesn't want to make you feel dysphoric—but like omg he was allowed to love every version of you??? what did he do to deserve this???

ever since you started gender affirming care, he's been waiting for the doctor to greenlight your desired surgery/ies. so when they finally gave you the green light, it was a weight off his shoulders

trust that he researched beforehand to the t (no pun intended). he's acting like you'll die if he gets even the slightest thing wrong

he's constantly communicating with your doctor to make sure he buys all the right stuff needed for your recovery. like aren't you getting the surgery/ies and not him???

if your doctor has you stop taking hormones to minimize complications, he'll be emotionally torn. on one hand he doesn't want you getting blood clots, but on the other hand he's almost offended by the idea of you having to give hrt a pause because he knows how much it's helped you

when he was finally allowed inside your room after surgery, he sat by you, holding onto your hand and very delicately brushing his fingers over your pulse. you look so much more peaceful and content in your sleep :(((

he gives you the softest, most loving smile ever when you open your eyes and tells you that you did amazing and that he's so proud of you

i can see him asking the doctor how to properly do everything—use the drains, apply ointment, you name it—so that he can take care of you better

he is soooo nitpicky and particular with your aftercare. he makes sure he takes care of you exactly how the doctor told him to. he's approaching this in a very by the book way

he's also super strict about what you eat for a while. some foods can cause scar tissue to swell, so he's hellbent on you avoiding said foods for your sake

once you've fully recovered, he’ll start teasing you about how funny you look when you're on pain meds and show you the stupid pictures he took of you (affectionately)

he got soooo smiley when you told him you could finally undergo gender affirming surgery. it's something you've both been talking about for a while, so he's so happy for you!!

if your doctor tells you to stop hrt to reduce the risk of complications, he'll reluctantly accept it. it's not like it affects him personally, but it very much affects you personally, and he hates that it has to be this way

he knows it must suck even more for you, so while your hrt is on pause, he'll do everything he can to take your mind of it. instead, he wants you to focus on the good things to come after surgery

he had to tell himself over and over that he can live without your physical affection for a while, just until you recover. what a liar lmao the thought kiiinda kept him up at night

the moment he sees you after the surgery/ies, his expression goes all soft and suddenly he feels sentimental. he's so grateful that you chose to have him with you on this journey

in my humble opinion, he wouldn't hover, but he wouldn't not be hands on either. he knows you can take care of yourself (to an extent!!) but because you can't move as much while you recover, he'll do things that require more mobility for you. generally he does things for you that make your life a little less inconvenient, so don't expect that to change

he's very cautious whenever he's helping you in your supportive undergarments and when he's handling your drains. again, you're not necessarily fragile, but your body is still recovering, so he’s very careful when it comes to these more invasive aftercare processes

you need help getting into your clothes because of the surgery/ies. that's a given. he likes to make it fun by pretending to be your temporary personal stylist to put a smile on your face

unlike theo, he's more gentle with his reminders to take care of yourself. whenever he notices that you're not in an optimal position, he’ll gently remind you to sit properly, lest you disturb your blood flow

he's forced to sleep a little farther from your side when you sleep, but he'll be stroking your hair the entire time he's awake. unfortunately this is all he can get for now aside from handholding, but seeing you in the body you've always envisioned for yourself makes it all worth it <3
