up through the ashes

1) Cinderella - kinda prefer Simon as the titular character, mostly because mama’s boy and you can fit the Brothers of Eden as the evil stepsisters pretty well, plus he deserves a make over and a nice evening with Prince Grace to fall in love, and Ryland becoming infatuated with this stranger who listens to his ramblings and shines in the moonlight, and he saves him from the life of pain and misery he has endured, giving Simon a proper home after all these years; I’m also intrigued by the possibility of a less traditional one, where Ryland has to be brave to save Rocky and he needs something from the palace, so he sneaks into the ball, and accidentally catches the eye of the lone, mysterious Prince Simon

2) Beauty and the Beast - certainly the fairy tale most evoked by the fandom, and for good reason, I think the way it fits them is pretty self explanatory (though I’d be interested in a potential reversal of the usual trope 👀 beast grace and beauty simon anyone?)

3) Swan Princess - okay I’m actually a huge fan of Simon and Ryland knowing each other when they were younger and Not Getting Along At All, and it’s only when they’re older that they grow closer, become friends, and fall in love; going off the 90’s animated film, I think I favor Grace in the role of Odette and Simon as Derek (the hunter and the swan, yeah it fits them, plus all of Odette’s little animal friends can be Rocky and Adrian)

4) Frog Prince - don’t actually see this one as an au often, but it could be fun! could do fox Ryland or eel Simon as the Prince

5) Rapunzel - this one could work either way, I think there’s an argument to be made for both of them being trapped in their respective “tower” (ie the hail mary or the iron lung); big fan of that one tangled au fic on ao3 too

6) Sleeping Beauty - oh this one could be sooo fun if you played into Ryland’s coma on the hail mary, but I also really like the idea of the “last son of eden” Simon having a curse laid upon him by the red eyed god; either way I’m always a sucker for a sleeping beauty au where the person slumbering can interact with their other half in some way while sleeping

7) Snow White - probably the one I’m the least sure what to do with, but there’s probably something there, maybe Simon “the Butcher” accidentally enamors a nearby Prince, or you can go the route of Simon is the hunter sent to kill Ryland who evoked the jealousy of the Queen or King, but he spares his life and his kindness is remembered by Grace even after he’s later taken in by a group of Eridians, and it is this person who showed him kindness that the Eridians seek after when Grace falls ill from a poisoned apple—wait I think I just talked myself into this au hold on I might have to write this one now ✍️✍️✍️

8) Little Mermaid - I mean, c’mon, I’ve written two bloodymary mer aus already, OF COURSE I’m gonna be obsessed with the concept of a little mermaid au; I’m one hundred perfectly down for either one being in either role, I think Ryland fits Ariel’s curiosity in a sweet way (and you get him rescuing Simon for those who really like the angel trope) but I also really like mute Simon enamored with the prince he saw and rescued, stumbling around and eagerly learning all Prince Grace is showing him of the human world
