admittedly, I didn’t love the direction brand new day took w the man-spider idea in AT FIRST. however, after looking back on it as a metaphor for trauma states and the effect those have on a person physically, I find myself more and more attached to it. The headaches, the sleeping problems, the sensory issues—those all make sense on a baseline level; if you’ve ever gone through an extended period of intense stress and change you could recognize that. But when you look into the symptoms deeper, the analogy only reveals itself further: bursts of anger and violence directing itself toward others, the isolation of knowing something is wrong with you but not finding the source, the cure being not an actual cure but instead accepting that you are both the person you were before the traumatic event occurred and the person it has made you. And of course, the consequences of pushing away that state and the damage it does for other people (the inhibitor and Jean Gray’s abduction).
The best part of spiderman BND is that it wasn't the power of love that defeated evil. No it was finding your lost self and platonic love that truly won. The entire movie consist of Peter literally repressing his emotions, not truly facing his trauma from no way home. The fact that his body had to fight for him to survive cause he didn't give a shit about himself. Like how some people with trauma when having reminders of their awful experience their body just switch to autopilot: closed off or go violent. That was Peter, everytime Jean and him clash, Jean knew to press Peter's buttons that made him go completely violent, and she weaponized that flawlessly. Next, him closing off after seeing Mj with another guy. He ran and ran, no purpose, his mind blank processing everything and his body just went on autopilot by doing what Peter usually do. Finally, the constant work, never ending, just kept fighting ignoring his mental, emotional, and physical health. It's a type of SH that doesn't actively try to k!ll or hurt himself, rather being careless, he doesn't care what would happen to him out there.
Now, his enitre journey was him slowly healing the scars from the past and finally seeing a future that he thought he could never have. Accepting the sometimes its okay to ask for help, its finally okay to start trusting people again. He trusted Frank with his identity, accepted the good will both Jean and Frank gave him. Letting his body take a break after so long of fighting. Finally, talking to Ned because he WANTS to and his past will not stop him from meeting his best friend. The fact that it was platonic love from Frank, chief (i forgot her name), and Jean got him to heal. It didn't exactly heal everything. However, he was better than before. It was indeed a brand new day. Not for spiderman, but for Peter Parker. It was the most heartbreaking, inspiring, and fantastic movie.
also it wasn't just the handshake, peter spent time with ned, building and chatting and making stupid references. even as spiderman, he was building up his memory in ned's head. with mj he just told her he loved her and hoped his fierce emotions would be enough. that's why she says "i don't love you, i don't even know you" because when he was with her he was either pretending to be someone else or throwing everything at her, with ned he was always just himself.

Really loved how they brought back the city of New York and its people as a character in Spider-Man Brand New Day. (SPOILERS PROBS)
Especially the end-credits sequence of just shots of New York.
But Peter interacting with the little boy??? In a crowd cheering for Spider-Man’s recovery? In a city that has declared at the top of their lungs that they love Spider-Man??
It’s a truly special aspect so pivotal to every iteration of Spider-Man.
My favourite has always been the crane scene in TASM 1, but the train scene in Spiderman 2, the bridge scene in Spiderman 1. When Andrew!Spidey returns to confront Rhino in TASM 2 and everyone looks up as he quietly thwips into the scene and the cops are smiling bc he’s finally BACK.
I just feel like Brand New Day is such a breath of fresh air and a love letter to the Spidey films that came before. If No Way Home was a big epic blockbuster that was spectacle and star power and joy that ended in an epic tragedy, then Brand New Day was the catharsis we desperately needed. And I love it for that.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day becomes much more wholesome when you remember that Jon and Tom filmed each others’ auditions for Frank Castle and Peter Parker. They both helped each other get into Marvel, now they’re in the same movie as the characters they auditioned for.

I keep seeing people saying that peter and frank have a "father/son dynamic" or a "uncle/nephew dynamic" but you are all wrong. They have the dynamic of the older coworker that you are way to close with when you're in your 20s. We've all had that coworker. Thats your best friend kinda. But it only works in a work setting
