I've read somewhere that you no longer write for the fandom. I, however, would like to write for the fandom (IF I could find the time).
I would like to pick your brain for a bit and understand what your writing process is like when capturing the essence of a character without turning them into caricatures. I find it difficult to write narratives since I'm used to writing informative papers.
I always find myself just scraping ideas, always daydreaming, and never writing at all.
You can ignore this if it's too personal.
Yeah, I think I mentioned in a previous ask that since the game is no longer active, I don't have any interest in writing fics for the fandom anymore. I still write fanfics...just not for SSS anymore 😅
Characterization is very important to me since it'll either make or break a story. I feel like a lot of time, people lean into one distinct character trait, and it falls flat, creating a very one-dimensional character, which leads into the OOC territory.
When writing characters, in the scene you're writing, ask yourself these three questions:
1. How would this character react?
2. Why is this character reacting this way?
3. Can I justify this reaction? (Can you think of a similar canon event or background information that can support this reaction)
Other things to consider when writing a particular character: speech pattern and mannerism. How do they speak? Do they use pet names? Certain slang or lingo? How do they behave? Do they have any sort of tics or quirks?
If writing stories is something you're interested in starting, I would encourage you to just start writing and experimenting. As with any other skills, you need to practice to improve. Most of my wips are started by just jotting snippets or dialogues in my phone notes, and I'll transfer them over to a proper word document when I have a chance. Just like with writing technical papers, it's okay if the first draft is messy and unorganized. The important thing is to get the ideas you want down first, and then you can go back later and revise as needed.
