Nope.

That’s not the explanation we were given. The explanation we got was that Maya “turned into Riley to protect her from Lucas” and accidentally felt Riley’s feelings for Lucas/mistook them for her own feelings—that Maya only liked Lucas “like that” because she “became Riley.” In other words, Maya did indeed feel romantic feelings for Lucas, but they weren’t Maya’s very own feelings…they were actually Riley’s feelings because Maya “became Riley.”

If they’d solved the triangle holding pattern by having Maya genuinely realize all on her own—without anybody filling her head with irrational and unreal notions of “turning into Riley and copying her feelings"—that she only felt “friendly affection” for Lucas (having her realize it via a no sparks kiss or something like that), I wouldn’t LIKE that way out very much…but I *would* accept it. It would be pretty weak cop-out writing by my yardstick, but at least it would be realistic (as in, it’s a Thing that actually happens IRL) and much more believable.

But this whole “Maya wasn’t feeling her own feelings, those were actually Riley’s feelings” Thing?
