This follows the story of Kamylla and Kallysta Rostera, who are twin sisters.

Let's just say one day a specific little sungazer drops into the backyard and somehow becomes Kallysta's little girl!

Soon after, Kamylla ends up with two little girls of her own! This ones are human, but they're now that little sungazer's cousins!

Feel free to ask them anything there, but keep it general for those younger maybe-8-year-olds who may or may not wander onto here!

Basic Information!

Kamylla:

3 minutes older than her twin sister, Kamylla, or Kam, is confident and cheerful. She's a fun individual and loves to sing and dance and perform with her sister.

Kallysta:

Kallysta, or Lysta, is 35 like her twin sister. She's much quieter, more meek, and more shy than her sister. Having been rescued from a bad relationship by her sister, she is jumpy and has no self-confidence that she knows of (this changes once Trip comes into her life).

Trip:

A little 8-year-old who fled Fang the Sniper, who was prone to hitting the clumsy little girl. Jumpy and shy, Trip instantly started to cling to Lysta, finding her way to the woman's heart and curling up there. Trip sees Lysta as her mother and Kam as her fun aunt.

Zerina:

A 10-year-old with black hair and brown eyes with a rough past. Kam's adopted daughter. The adoption was sped up due to an urgent need to get a place for the kid to stay, and she had already been through 10 foster homes, none of which treated her right. She is shy around humans but feels at home around the alien kids of Green Hill.

Xelia:

A 9-year-old girl with auburn hair and blue eyes. The auburn is closer to red, so it's more often than not described as red. She will correct people, though. She's Kam's other adopted daughter, having spent the majority of her life with Zerina, jumping into the same foster homes and then getting adopted with her. She's the most outspoken of the girls.

Infinite:

Yeah well, it kinda rubbed off on the kids and the first routine is the result. Xelia is the one who starts on the left, Zerina is the one in the middle, and Trip is the one that starts on the right.

This takes place before Kallysta adopts Infinite, but Trip certainly sees him as her big brother long before that!

Infinite wasn't sure what to make of this. All these weak humans, all staring at him. He wanted to scare them with a flick of the wrist. Show them who's boss.

Instead, he had to settle for glaring at them.

The girls skipped alongside him, the red-haired one (Xelia, he was pretty sure. He memorized Trip's name, but the other two were harder to memorize) pulling far ahead from time to time.

The two women had asked the four of them to pick up some things from the grocery. One of them needed to check in with her job, and the other, the one who kept looking at him with that odd LOOK, like she was staring into his soul, and then zoning out in a SUPER WEIRD WAY seemed too absentminded to do it, which is why they'd asked the four of them.

Why HE had to go too beat him.

His wrist was still in the cast. He had mostly recovered otherwise, other than that wound in his side.

They entered the store and made their way to the cereal isle. The four were allowed to pick whatever cereal they wanted.

The girls started bickering under their breath as Infinite browsed the options.

There was a yelp from behind him. He whirled around and saw a pair of older women, with the girls at their feet.

It looked like the foolish things hadn't been looking where they were going.

"S-Sorry, ma'ams, won't do it again," The oldest one, the girl with black hair, mumbled as she grabbed the other two by their arms and started to tug them out of the way.

The two women glared at Trip in particular. Something about that set off warning bells in the jackal's head. Something about these two made him feel unsafe.

That look in their eyes was uncomfortably familiar.

They approached him and gave him that same LOOK. He bared his teeth defensively, a box of sugary cereal for the girls in his hand.

He heard one of them mumble: "filthy animal, what're those ladies thinking... As if one wasn't enough..."

That, followed by a withering glare, for some reason made him feel... so SMALL... he HATED THAT!

But his body didn't obey him. He felt his ears droop and he lowered his gaze to hide his face.

"HEY!"

Infinite's head lifted. He'd never seen that tiny sungazer look so upset.

"That's my BROTHER! Get AWAY from him!"

Brother?

Infinite was NOBODY'S brother! He was about to tell her that, but his mouth didn't obey.

The women turned on the little girl.

"What, did you never learn any respect?"

One whispered to the other: "What do you expect from some random freaks of nature? Marching like they own the place..."

Trip's eyes filled with tears.

She was beginning to whimper when Xelia finally unfroze, followed by the other girl (Zerina? He was pretty sure it was Zerina).

"Leave our cousins alone!"

"We don't appreciate that."

The two women stared at the older girls. At the glare on Xelia's face and the anxious plea to go on Zerina's face.

They finally glared at Infinite and Trip one more time before turning, talking loudly about "entitled bratty freaks."

"Th-Thanks," Trip mumbled, wiping at her eyes.

Zerina wiped her little cousin's eyes, then turned to Infinite. "Are you alright?"

He nodded.

"Let's go, before some other ENTITLED KARENS show up," Xelia asserted, speaking loudly so the two women could hear.

Infinite mutely nodded.

Infinite awakened on the couch. A blanket was settled over him.

He shot bolt upright, supporting himself with his arms.

Owwwww.... his wrist ached. He glanced at it and noticed his glove was off and his wrist was bandaged.

His other wounds stung and ached, but as he glanced himself over he noticed he'd been patched up.

He looked at the source of the giggles in the room and spotted three girls. Two human, one mobian, dancing in the middle of the room.

It looked like they were practicing a routine.

"Stiff. Loosen up," he advised. The girls whirled to face him, eyes big and curious.

"You," he jerked his head in the direction of the black-haired human. "You keep tensing. It makes you look stiff."

She nodded. The girls proceeded to repeat the routine, this time facing him, welcoming and listening to his advice.

It made Infinite feel strange... happy? He hadn't felt happy in... hmmm... a long time...

His hand went to his face. Wait, where was his mask?!

"WHERE IS MY MASK!?"

"Mama moved it so Miss Maddie could help you," the little sungazer lizard (if he had it right) responded. "Mama said you have a nice face."

"This face is the symbol of someone WEAK. And I'm NOT weak!"

The girls exchanged a glance. "No it's not. It looks cool," the auburn-haired girl responded. "My name's Xelia. That's my big sister Zerina and our little cousin Trip," she gestured at the other two girls as she introduced them.

"You may call me Infinite," his voice boomed. Good, a nice powerful voice. He couldn't show any weakness to these girls, even if they were so obviously younger than him.

"Cooooooool," Xelia squealed.

The other two exchanged a glance before smiling at Infinite.

"Mama said you remind her of herself, but I don't know why. Either way, she's thinking of taking care of you. She said I might get a big brother," Trip squealed in excitement. She scampered over, only to trip over the carpet and drop to the floor.

Her cousins smothered snorts of laughter, earning a hurt look from the youngest girl.

Infinite had to admit these little girls couldn't be the worst, watching them.

But why were they welcoming him when he was so weak?

Kamylla and Kallysta watched from the doorway.

"I didn't expect the girls would get along with him so well," Kamylla commented.

Introducing the Rostera Family's newest addition: Infinite the Jackal!

The girls were doing jump rope in the back.

"Out in the meadow where the green grass grows, there sat Trip, as pretty as a rose. Up came Tails and kissed her on the cheek-"

"EEEEWWWWWW, I don't have a crush on anyone," Trip squealed in protest and stopped jumping, the rope colliding with her ankle as her older cousins dissolved into giggles at the little sungazer's pouty face.

There was a crash, rustling of leaves, a scream of agony, and a black and white shape rolled down the hill. There was a thump as something collided with the back fence.

The girls looked at each other and ran to the fence. Xelia scaled it easily and peeked over the side.

"Alien," she reported as the girls' mothers rushed out.

"You okay, babygirls," Kamylla questioned, scooping her younger daughter off the fence and cradling her as she caressed her older daughter's cheek.

"We're fine, mother," Zerina responded.

"Mommmmmm, there's someone over the fence! Unconscious, too," Xelia protested, squirming with her feet paddling in the air.

At that, Kallysta, with Trip in her arms, opened the back gate and looked out.

"Ohmygosh, Kam, she's right... Looks like a... dog of some sort," Lysta murmered as she stared. "He looks badly hurt."

Kamylla looked out.

A black jackal with white locks of fur and white markings on his sides like a rib cage lay unconscious on the ground, his back against the fence. He wore gloves and shoes that looked sharp at the tips. He wore a sharp-looking mask. Kamylla took it off to look at his face. He had a scar over his left eye.

Trip inhaled sharply. "He looks like the guy the Wachowskis told us about, the one who can alter reality!"

The two women looked at the little girl, then inspected him for injury. The jackal had a number of deep cuts lacing his arms and legs, and his back had a few deep gashes. The worst wound looked to be a gash in his left side. His right wrist was clearly broken, the hand twisted out of alignment with the rest of his arm.

Kamylla turned to her girls. "Zerina, get a blanket. Xelia, call Maddie."

The two girls darted inside, almost getting stuck at the door from trying to get in at the same time.

Kamylla turned back to the boy, only to find Lysta staring at his back. Following her sister's gaze led to Kamylla brushing her hand across his back and feeling scars. The fur was shorter and stiffer there, in slashes across his back.

The wounds would've been deep and painful to leave these marks.

At this point, Zerina returned and the two women bundled the jackal in the blanket and moved him inside.

After Maddie had come and gone, Lysta had finally settled down next to the jackal. He had awakened briefly and managed to answer questions.

His name was Infinite.

He was 15 years old.

There was a scar Maddie had pointed out, triangle shaped, but the points were sharper, directly on his chest.

He'd passed out again and stayed out like a light while Maddie treated his injuries.

Lysta heard him mumbling in his sleep. Something about "please no," and "I'm sorry," and "I'm not weak, I promise, let me prove it," that broke her heart.

She heard her own fear.

"How is this supposed to work?"

Kallysta walked over to her daughter, giving her nieces a little smile as she went. She crouched by Trip and started walking the little sungazer through the process of setting up the laser tag vest and gun.

"Mama, how do you change the color?"

Lysta proceeded to point out the little dial as her cousins, who had worked that out already, burst into giggles.

"Don't laugh at your cousin, girls," Kamylla chided her two daughters. The two human girls lowered their heads. "Sorry," they chorused.

"There, all set," Lysta told Trip softly. "Remember, it's after dark girls, be careful," she added in a louder tone to all three.

The vest indicators went on, pink for Zerina, blue for Xelia, and purple for Trip.

Reloading sounds rang through the air, followed by zapping sounds and eager squeals.

The twins smiled at each other as one indicator flashed yellow, followed by a squeal and the indicator disappearing from sight. The absence of the blue told them Xelia had been hit three to five times already.

They could see Zerina peeking out of the backyard play structure, and they saw Trip charge in to zap at her cousin.

This went on for a while, the girls darting around the backyard, hiding and ambushing one another.

It was 10:00 before the twins called the kids to them and started taking them inside.

"Mama, can we do it again tomorrow," Trip squealed eagerly as she ran over to Lysta, nestling her face into her mother's palm.

"Maybe," Lysta responded gently, caressing her baby girl's cheek.

"Mother, may we," Zerina asked as she and her sister approached Kam. The two sisters knew that she would likely give the same answer as her sister, but it was worth a punt.

"Please, mom! Please please please," Xelia pleaded, bouncing on her toes and making her mother laugh.

"We'll see," Kam responded. It had taken a long time to save up for this present for the girls.

But it was more than worth it.

The twins looked at each other with a knowing smile.

"Come ON, Trip, how hard can it be!"

Xelia was gathering twigs, setting them up in a tent shape on the grass. The girls were having a backyard campout that they had begged their mothers ALL DAY to get permission for. They had a tent and sleeping bags and everything.

"If you do it, we could make s'mores," the girl teased in her sing-song voice.

"Don't do it, didn't mother say no fires," Zerina pointed out. "We'll get in super big trouble!"

Trip hesitated, a half-formed fireball in her throat. She wanted to make Xelia happy, but Zerina was right. They'd get in trouble.

In that perfect moment, a moth flew past her face.

Trip squeaked and huffed a breath out instinctively. A tiny fireball flew onto the sticks, lighting them.

"There, see? Was that so hard," Xelia smirked in satisfaction.

"Xelia? It's spreading," Zerina pointed out.

The grass around the campfire was smoking, some of the grass underneath and surrounding starting to burn.

"Trip? Can you maybe, I dunno, ABSORB FIRE BACK INTO YOURSELF?!"

"I'M NOT A SALAMANDER!"

"YOU CAN BREATHE FIRE, CAN'T YOU!"

"NOT BRING IT BACK INTO MYSELF!"

"WON'T YOU TWO BE QUIET AND GET THE HOSE!"

The two younger girls stopped yelling at each other and looked at Zerina. She never raised her voice.

"GET AWAY FROM THERE!"

The three girls looked back at the house and saw Kamylla scrambling for the hose. Busted.

The three scrambled away from the burning grass as the hose went on. After a few seconds, the campfire was nothing more than a rough circle of blackened grass and black sticks.

"Do you three have ANY idea what you could've done?!"

"Trip lit it!"

"Xelia told me to!"

"That's enough, you two," Kamylla's eyes were narrowed. It looked like she'd just woken up. It was about 10:00 in the night, after all.

"You could've gotten hurt, or worse! Also, the house could've burned down, you could've damaged the neighbor's property and we would've had to pay for it. We can't afford that!"

The girls' heads were lowered, staring at the ground.

"You know what, I think this was a mistake," Kamylla sighed, rubbing her forehead. "Who's idea was this?"

Trip and Zerina pointed at Xelia.

"Xelia, you're grounded for a week. Also, start packing this stuff up. I'm putting an end to this."

"Kammy, please no!"

"We won't do it again!"

"Moooommmmm, nooooooo!"

"Now."

Zerina and Trip gave her pleading looks that almost won her over. Xelia stomped back towards the tent. When the other two went, Kamylla called her younger daughter over.

Xelia returned, her red hair obscuring her face. Kamylla knew the blue eyes would be full of guilt and betrayal. She felt horrible when she saw her daughter trembling. Her daughters had been dealt a rough hand with past homes.

"Look, Xelia," Kamylla had gotten down on one knee and tucked a finger under her younger daughter's chin, lifting her face to peer into the sky blue eyes.

"We said no fires for a reason. I was upset because I love you three. And you know what that means?"

"...That you'll never let anything happen to us?"

"Exactly. And when I saw that fire, I was so afraid... That you would..." She didn't finish the sentence.

But the girl saw the look in her mother's eyes and knew exactly what she meant.

Xelia flung her arms around her mother's neck. "I'm sorry, mom, I won't do it again!"

"I know you won't. Now go help your cousin and sister."

Xelia received a pat on the head and she scampered back to help her sister and cousin tie up the sleeping bags.

I have decided that despite being the middle kid, Xelia's the leader.

She and Zerina have a similar sort of trauma and while the older girl deals with it by being afraid to do anything that might offend an adult or someone with authority, Xelia gets it out by being noisy and outspoken.

Trip isn't an angel herself. She's pretty clumsy and would be the girl who the mom is like "don't drop it," and she instantly accidentally drops it. She also loves magic, and there are so many times her family finds her looking in closets for Narnia or looking for owls to find her Hogwarts letter.

Both of the younger girls listen to Zerina in the rare case she puts her foot down, but she normally goes along with what Xelia comes up with.

The girls don't fight much, but they do disagree often. Since two of them are quieter, Xelia often gets frustrated with their reluctance to adventure, and the other two find Xelia reckless. The two humans find that Trip has her head in the clouds too much, and the two younger girls find that Zerina is aloof and distant.
