The deeper the shadow the brighter the light.
In the distance on a vacant shore, a dark shadow stepped into the moon light. It seemed to be waiting, watching for something. Another figure stepped from the shadows to the north behind the first one. A shot of light came from the hooded figure as they quickly turned towards the oncoming person. There was an eerie laugh that was heard across the waters as the figure quick seemed to dissipate into nothingness and quickly reappear. Both figures quickly shed the cloaks they were wearing. Her blue eyes took in the whole scene. Yes all the players where in place. She sat down on the end of the plank to watch the on coming battle unfold.
It seemed the two figures argued back and forth for at least an hour. She was growing bored. Growling she stood up. Two hands quickly set on her shoulders. “Believe me they will fight soon enough. Give them time” a male voice sounded behind her. She sat back down with a huff, her attention going back to the distant shore.
Soon enough the two figures seemed to back away from each other. She could make out from the reflection of the moon what each one was. To the south stood a paladin, whose armor reflected white with gold accents and purple gems. With her clock gone one could see a sword strapped to her back that glow the same as the gems. In her hands she held a small mace which seemed to glow with its own internal light and a shield. To the north the only thing that reflected was the person’s shoulders. Soon enough the figure disappeared into the shadows. “That one must be the fucking priestess.” she muttered out load.
As she sat in her perch and watched the only thing that she could catch from the distance were flashes of light between the paladin and the priest hiding in the shadows. The flashes came quick. Her eyes darted over the shore as the lights bounced over the shore. The battle seemed to rage on for several hours as before the two seemed to stop and breathe. They could barely move. Every so often a flash was seen or sparks from weapons clashing. Now was her time.
Jumping down she landed on the ice created from her frost. Slowly she walked towards the shore with the two figures close behind her.
The priest took a deep breath, her fingers digging deep into the wet sand beneath her. The paladin sat on her ass, her shield cast to the side with her mace. Her sword was planted in the wet earth beside her as she leaned on it. As the both stared at each other waiting for the next move a cool wind blew, frost began to gather in the puddles around them. “Well my child it seems we have been setup. Both of us where too bullheaded to realize it at the time. I assumed you where hiding something and you thought I was lying. It seems it has finally cost us.” The paladin nodded. Turning they both watched the sea as blue eyes stared at them through a fog which seemed to be rolling in.
“I crawled from the wreckage one more time. Horrific memory twists my mind.
Dark, rugged, cold and hard to turn. My path of destruction, you will feel it burn.” She pointed at them. “The light that is not, and the light that is, both here. To flush you out, I used your own fears. You both hide, but you both where found. Cause I hunted you down without mercy. Every move I traced. I will admit you had me for a time….But your luck runs out….” Smiling deeply she raised her hand and stepped on to the shore.
Both turned to towards their mounts. Standing between them was two figures, both cloaked. A soft cry rang out from the paladins lips. She knew just looking at the two and her heart broke in two. A small gasp even escaped from the priest, for a third figure stood between them and the mounts. His white hair still hung down over his shoulders. His shirt well pressed even after a long flight. His wand and sword hung from the well made hilts at his side. His eyes stared blankly at them. His face emotionless. “Kel…….. Kelsair….. I mean Jarayth?” the priest voice cracked as her voice echoed across the lagoon. Rose laughed. An empty, metallic laugh that causes chills to run through the paladin. “I told you. Every move you made, everyone you talked to, I traced. I found out a little secret from you priestess. It was something that you released when we passed each other in that crystal prison. HE was still alive you had found him but since he had no memory, you let him be. See there was some light left in that cold frozen heart of yours.” The paladin looked at her confused. “Oh she did not tell you. On things get even better…..” the metallic laugh echoed of the small mountains surrounding the shore. “And now is not the time to tell her death knight” a sneer rain across the priest face. “Then if it is not the time for truths then it is time to sleep. The ever lasting nightmare. Forever locked in a crystal prison. Sleep my friends and you will see that my dreams become your realities.” The warlock raised his hands as a purple glow began to emit from them.
The paladin still confused looked at her mother. The two stared at each other for a moment. Nodding the two on the beach gathered one last breath and rushed for the ice strip that the death knight had just left. The priest slipped and slide headed for the water. Quickly the paladin reached back and grabbed her mother by the robes and caring her under her arm. Her boots where dented and dinged and seemed to grip the ice. A laugh rang out behind them. As they closed in on the boat the ice started to break in front of them. The paladin tossed the priest toward the ship and jumped herself towards it. The paladin watched as her mother made it safely on the ship but knew she was falling short. For once she cursed for wearing plate. She reached out grabbing a hold of side of the ship. The priest stared down at her and then turned and walked away. A small cry escaped the paladin. She looked around hoping to find something else to use to pull her self up. A sound above her. She looked up and there stood the priest again. She closed her eyes waiting on the final shot. A noise was made as something hit the ship beside her. She slowly opened her eyes. A rope was hanging beside her. She looked back up. There standing and holding onto the rope was the priest but this time. The shadows ran. A golden aura seemed to glow from her to emit from her very core. The whole boat seemed to glow. Tears flowed from her eyes. “Are you going to grab on or fall into the see?” The paladin grabbed the rope and crawled onto the ship. As she stood there staring at the priest who now seemed to have an aura around her, she heard a small splash. She turned to look back at the shore. She turned back toward the priest and grabbed her and ran for the edge of the boat.
Rose watched as the priest suddenly glowed bright and pulled the paladin up onto the boat. She growled and started towards the water, pushing the warlock out of the way. The two hooded figures stepped between her and the shore. “Watch” the male pointed at the edge of the ship where a small shadow was seen. A small flash and the goblin slipped into the water. An explosion rocked the ship within seconds, sending debris flying in all directions.
Rose smiled. What a fitting end to everything. Everyone united in the end, the priest finally finding the light within her self, only to have everything shredded with in seconds. She mounted and began to fly over the wreckage looking for the bodies. A thick fog started rolling in from the south, covering everything, obscuring her view. She landed back on the shore and turned towards the two figures still hooded. “Come, we have much to do before the world knows what happened here tonight.” a small female voice rang out from the second figure. All four mounted and flew back towards Tol Barad to catch the portal back to the main land.
A small goblin crawled up on the shore. Coughing and holding tightly to the purse at its waist. Pulling out a small pad and quill she began to write.
“Messenger of Fear was in their sight
Dark deception killed the light
Hybrid children watch the sea
Pray for Father, roaming free.
The fearless bitch
Her insanity
She watches
lurking near the sea
The great Old One
A forbidden site
The Thing That Should Not Be
Gone is the lights
The fog covers
The lights are hidden
Soon all shall be forgiven
A giant turtle
Ancient ones
That which has come will be undone
The world shall know
And all will see
The lights heart shine
And a shadows release”
Smiling, she put her pad back in her bag. Mounting she headed back towards the eastern kingdoms. Silvermoon was a long way off…..
