โผ๏ธโผ๏ธโผ๏ธโผ๏ธโผ๏ธโผ๏ธโผ๏ธ trust me, if white people know you aren't safe to be racist around, we'll notice! Your ACTIONS will speak for you!
But it was not until a few nights later, when I watched a man pull a knife out of his walking stick, and press the blade to his brotherโs breast bone, that I said to myself, Lestat unpack your trunks. Youโre home.
Having a bust of Roman Emperor Caracalla in the background during this scene is a legitimately hilarious and on point set dressing choice.
Caracalla famously killed his brother, Geta, who their father Emperor Severus had wanted him to co-rule with, while his brother pleaded for his life and clung to their mother.
Then Caracalla erased every image of him from the empire.
As a caregiver, I'm tired of people asking,"Do you wipe ass for a living?"
This isn't inherently because it's disrespectul to my job, though it is and us caregivers do SO much more than that; we're taking care of people. That's 10% or less of the job.
It's the genuine DISRESPECT of my clients that bother me.
Do NOT speak about my client like they're a dog. "Do you wipe ass for a living?" You could not have phrased that in a more insensitive, ableist, and dehumanizing way.
Incontenience care is NORMAL.
It is NOT gross, weird, immature, or anything else besides normal.
My clients have felt ashamed for normal things like needing their briefs changed or having to do toiletry and everytime I reassure them they're completely fine and not doing anything wrong. It breaks my heart to see them so embarassed over a normal bodily function, esepcially when they still feel so even though I signed up to do this.
Maybe the elderly or disabled wouldn't be so ashamed of basic things that ARE normal if people didn't make it sound like it was the most absurd, repulsive, and gross thing ever.
Please be mature. If you are an adult and cannot comprehend someone needing toilet assistance without making it weird or sound gross, then you really really need to grow up.
I don't really like making aggressive sounding posts or scolding posts, because every single person is learning and we all make mistakes, but gosh guys, this really bothers me.
Stop making people feel bad and THINK about what you're saying when refering to another human being before you say it. I will NEVER tolerate this disrespect for these people I'm taking care of who trust me.

something Iโve noticed in fandoms lately is a lack ofโฆ object permanence? perspective? Just reacting to each episode/chapter of something as if itโs final & whatever plot line they dislike is the status quo forever? likeโฆโฆ have a tiny bit of patience
I kinda understand because a lot of franchises lately have ended in shoddy and poorly thought out ways, but tbh either have some faith in your fav show or just write fanfic
To be honest the first flashback of episode 2 reminded me of the importance of lies and omissions in anthropological and or forensic interviews.
In fact they used to be considered a bother, but they are actually very important because they might tell you more about someone rather than the actual truth.
Like "Why are they lying about this? Why did they make this specific lie? Why did they omit this? What did they want us to see and know?" are the questions one should ask themselves when interviewing someone.
Lestat's family introduction was fast, biased, we might not get another one and this might not tell us who his father and brothers were like in reality but instead how Lestat wants us to perceive them and how he wants us to perceive him and his mother.
the one band member thinking to himself that he's so glad lestat killed one of the tech guys and lestat going "dude I just fired him like a normal person" was an underrated moment tbh

My thoughts on TVL so far (also unintentional meta)
TVL spoilers:
โLouis doesnโt sound like Louisโ โIs this it? They skimmed over Lestatโs history so quickโ โI donโt like that the narrative is all over the place the writingโs taken a downturnโ, these are all things Iโve seen different people say multiple times now.
Lestat is telling this story. Louis doesnโt sound like how weโve previously seen him because weโre seeing him through Lestatโs eyes. This is episode 2/7, maybe itโs Lestat who didnโt want to spend a long time talking about Auvergne? Maybe its set up for when it comes crashing back down later? The storyline is all over the place because Lestatโs mind is a fucking mess, not because the writingโs gone downhill. Itโs unserious at times because Lestat is unserious. Mind you, itโs common knowledge that he starts his book sounding like Ebony Darkness Dementia Raven Way. lol.
And thatโs not talking down on Lestat, because Iโm genuinely enjoying this so far and I find him to be fun! Itโs meant to have an element of camp to it! Iโve been liking the mess in Lestatโs mind and trying to find meaning in it almost as much as I love Louisโ linear storytelling with cracks starting to show until it was too much to cover up. The mess doesnโt mean that there are less things to look for or read into.
I think people are also having an issue because they see the chaos in Lestatโs narrative as the narrative trying to convey authenticity vs. Louisโ cleaner, more linear narrative as inauthentic. Thatโs where theyโre wrong, because itโs written a means to hide things in plain sight.
Neither are fully authentic or inauthentic, Louis truly is a much more focused and calmer person relative to Lestat, but he also makes use of those traits as a cover. As Daniel said โSidestep the big picture, get the story straight firstโ Louis jumping to see the big picture and tie things up in a neat and tidy way sometimes means that doesnโt notice the small things impacting his narrative, whether it be himself or outside influences, until they turn into huge things that are impossible to ignore.
Lestat is a lot more rough around the edges, his imperfections are exposed to the world and a lot of that is true, but he makes use of that as well to distract and misguide from what he doesnโt want you to look atโ Itโs not so much of a cover because the narrative has made it so he canโt hide from hisโฆ wellโฆ failures (or what he perceives as his own failures even when theyโre not, like his victimhood), so what I think is happening here is that heโs going to wrestle with it as a part of the storytellingโ itโs a far more purposeful action than Louisโ lack of realizationsโ and fail. For the victimhood heโs trying to distract from, weโll see the true impact of it all eventually instead of the cool persona heโs trying to build that he thinks itโs going to take away from, but I think with this kind of framing it also means that any excuses he makes for his wrongful actions are going to fall apart as well. Or at least I see the story heading this way.
Weโre starting to see some of that now in 3x02, he spends the whole episode almost trying to justify Gabriellaโs incestuous abuse of him and then at the end puts up a weak โitโs different for vampiresโ.
I also think it depends greatly on the premise. Louisโ interview was an invitation, Lestatโs is his answer for playing a part in an apocalypse, not an introspection on his own terms and heโs vying for some sort of control here becauseโฆ and now weโve circled back to what I mentioned at the startโฆ heโs a mess!
But yeah, Idk this is what Iโve been making of the season so far.

I saw a post (not on tumblr) about an interviewer pronouncing Assadโs name wrong when it wasnโt wrong, and I thought I should say this in case someone else was worried about the pronunciation:
Assad has talked about this and he mentioned that he doesnโt care too much about how itโs pronounced. iirc he mentioned itโs because there are two ways that people typically pronounce his name, and theyโre both correct.
The โAs-saadโ pronunciation is the most common, and itโs also the original Arabic pronunciation.
However, thereโs also the โAhs-sudโ pronunciation which is the one Assadโs mentioned his family/friends use. This one is more common with Desis and not as commonly used overall. (Also, not all Desis use this pronunciation)
This phenomenon isnโt uncommon, youโll find similar differences with names like Hassan (โHas-aanโ vs. โHuh-sunโ) (This was the example Assad used as well), Malik (โMaa-likโ vs. โMal-ikโ), or, not the same case but a similar one with the name Rashid (โRaa-shedโ vs. โRa-sheedโ) (the latter two examples being alternately used in IWTV as well).
You can hear Assad discuss the pronunciation of his name here (at 18:52).
