Rosa Salazar World

So the day arrived, I was panicking, my hair was shit, I didn’t know what to wear and I had to give my shift from my job to a friend so I could meet Rosa (I hope my boss don’t see this). But then it was almost 2 PM and I had to leave my house, I lived pretty close to the restaurant, like 10 minutes away, but I left my house 30 minutes before to walk around Urban Outfitters and try to be less nervous. It was a bad idea, while I was browsing around the store I lost the track of time and I saw that I was going to arrive at least 5 minutes late, so I started to weirdly speedwalking. But GOD WAS ON MY SIDE. When I thought I was screwed, Rosa sent me a message saying that she was going to be late too so I relaxed for a little bit and arrived there first. It was really weird to say “I have a reservation in the name of Rosa Salazar”, like…. it was actually happening, so I sat down on the table and started to panic again, I was scared I was going to say stupid things, or since my grammar is not going I was going to say something wrong. And I was facing the main door, so I couldn’ stop getting scared whenever someone new goes through the damn door. But then at the time she actually came I was texting my friend, and when I looked up a tiny little bean was looking straight at me to confirm if I’m the one she is supposed to meet, and of course, I opened the biggest smile and started shaking 3 times more... we shared a big hug, and then we sat down and I was like…. literally mute. Well, until the time I gave her my present. I know she is a big fan of the luxury brand Coach, and I actually work there as a Sales Associate, so I started thinking of all the things she would like from the store and bought her earrings and a necklace. She was like “Nooooo, you don’t have to… no way”. But to be honest, this present doesn’t even compare to all of the things she sent to me in August last year. She loved it so much that she asked me to put the necklace on her, which was when I realized I am really tall next to her.

After that, she started asking questions about me, she really wanted to know more about me and my dreams, leaving aside all of the fan account stuff. And actually, we started to get really personal when we started to talk about our crazy unconventional relationships with our mothers and relatives, we both have a lot in common. Although she is an amazing actress, she is a really simple woman and really down-to-earth. I could speak easily with her, which made me less nervous and more comfortable. She is the type of person that you can talk about everything. And one thing I noticed is that she waaaaaay more knowledgeable when it comes to the movie industry. Unfortunately, many amazing movies that are released in the US don’t go to Brazil, and actually going to the cinema there is really expensive. So I used to go only when a big movie was being released, like Avengers or something like that. So of course, as she was talking about many movies she loved, I didn’t know about anything, because my knowledge of movies is very different. The most embarrassing moment for me was when she suggested a Brazilian movie called “The Edge of Democrazy” and I didn’t know what movie was that, and then when I search on Netflix I remembered that it was the movie about Dilma and Lula’s story… So I guess she probably was like “Wtf this Brazilian girl doesn’t watch Brazilian movies?”, yes…. really embarrassing, I wanted to hit my head on the wall but anyway!!! 

She gave me a list of her favourite movies, and when I wanted to make one for her too I forgot everything that I watched, I couldn’t remember shit to suggest to her. Everything I wrote was 1917. So after that, the movies that I like are something like Mad Max: Fury Road and Parasite. I like this crazy stuff, sometimes it doesn’t need to have a complex story but I like to forget about the whole world while I’m watching something, which was the feeling that both of those movies gave it to me, and she agreed.

We started talking about how was Brand New Cherry Flavor going so far, she didn’t give me many details because of SPOILERS, but like… from what she told me, this TV show is going to be… different. We talked briefly about #AlitaArmy too, she was really happy with all the support the fans are giving, both Jon and Robert are loving it too! So keep it up the good work guys, the announcement of the sequel *might* be on the way, fingers crossed!

We also talked about all the crazy stuff that happened since she started to become more famous. I could tell she was scared of the fans, I imagine that working with Dylan O’Brien and seeing everything that their fans do might scare you a little, I don’t blame her on that. And all I wanted to say was sorry if I ever made her uncomfortable because I know that the internet was not kind in the beginning, but she appreciated everything that Rosa Salazar Brazil did for her. And that was when I had to fight my tears with everything I could because my goal since I started this account 6 years ago was only to support and show her that she is amazing and is doing a good job.

In the end, the part of the conversation I appreciated the most was the support she gave to me to become an actress. I’m not gonna lie, with all of the shit that the immigration laws of Canada throw it at my face, I lost hope. College is expensive and impossible for me and that is the only way to have citizenship here, and I can only reach that if I either win the lottery and pay 40k in a 2 years school, or marry someone (I’m fine single lol). So I think she could tell how unmotivated I was because I might start in this industry older or I might not have the resources to start. But she didn’t want me to quit, she told me to write my own short movies, and maybe send it to her to take a look, and also do self-tapes and train as hard as I can, but I shouldn’t give up. And that gave me a lot of strength, after that I wrote (poorly) 3 shorts and have ideas for more, where I am actually going to film as soon as the quarantine finishes, and then who knows what it might happen. It’s not every day that your favourite actress says that you should do something and not give up, maybe that’s a sign I don’t know… maybe if I do reach my goal I’m gonna look back and think that this only happened because Rosa told me so. 

I actually almost went to the BNCF set but COVID-19 happened, and now everyone has to stay at home, but she promised me it is not going to be the last time we see each other. I hope I get to see her again and embarrass myself less than the first time. Ps: She was going to let give me Havaianas onset, the Brazilian flip flops.

To conclude, that was the best thing that happened in the last 2 years. Who is my friend knows that I fight with my anxiety and depression since I’m 15, and my mental health is getting worse as we speak especially since I all alone here. I know it will sound really cheesy, but those 3 hours that we spend together was really nice to forget all the shit it goes on my head, I appreciated a lot.
