I absolutely love the style of this poster design. It’s an advertisement for the British bike company, Perfecta, and was painted by Czech artist Alphonse Mucha in 1902. The use of colour and the delicate, flowing line style give the subject an elegant and laid back feel.

After recently promising myself to hold back from film photography for a while, and make the most of my D-SLR, I must confess that this promise has been broken. I couldn’t resist taking my film Minolta on a weekend trip to Bruges and Ghent, and I’m so pleased I did. Although I didn’t take as many pictures as I would have done with digital, I’m still glad I used it, and it made me remember again what I love about film. Here’s one of my photographs of a view from the Belfry in Bruges.

Some unexpected architecture of Vieux Lille

I will be in France for the next month, and as well as brushing up on my French I hope to take some more photographs like this.
"Photographier... C’est mettre sur la même ligne de mire la tête, l’œil et le cœur. C’est une façon de vivre."
My favourite photographer is Henri Cartier-Bresson. The precision timing of his photographs is perfect, making for brilliantly composed images, with great texture and depth. Here, the cyclist is beautifully framed between the railings and pavement edge, despite the high speed at which he appears to be moving past. I love the thought and planning that has evidently gone into these pictures.
And the fact that he was French just adds to the beauty of it all.

These are some early, less well-known Warhol illustrations from the '50s. Although they seem to be rough sketches, they are full of character and inidivduality. I love their simplicity, and the intriguing words that accompany them.
Nat King Cole's Nature Boy.
I heard this being played by a man on a melodica while I was walking through Regent's Park in London. Though he was sitting alone on the grass, in the low evening sunshine he looked so content and immersed in his music, wanting to share this beautifully haunting melody with the passers-by. It was clear he appreciated the small, simple things in life. The things that come for free. It made me envious of the dedication to playing an instrument that I have unfortunately never had.
