People criticize men who don’t wanna marry a woman who is too career-minded. Tbh, even as a woman, I wouldn’t want my husband to put much of his energy to getting ahead in his career or building his business than in our family. I want him having dinner with us at 7pm every night. I don’t just see him as the provider, I believe a constant male presence in a child’s life is essential to the child’s emotional well-being.

But at the same time, I don’t think I can marry a guy who solely believes that all women should stay home. I need a man who will support me if God calls me to use my talent, skills, and feminine gifts outside the home and into the workforce.  I would also want him to support our daughters if God wants them to have career, especially in service of people. I don’t want to force them to be stay-at-home moms if they don’t want to. It would be problematic to our marriage if he doesn’t understand the importance of how God needs to call women outside the domestic sphere. He would be getting in the way of spreading the kingdom of God by preventing women to find their identity in service of Christ if he is too rigid on gender roles. 

Both spouses should put their family above their careers but ultimately they should be leading their family to Christ. And a huge part of that is serving Christ in the form of their neighbors. So the essential thing to pass down to children is to determine how to use their talents and skills to spread the kingdom of God, and one way to teach children how to do that is for each spouse to figure it out for themselves first.

It’s still funny to me how the most controversial part of this post was what time people have dinner.

I don’t think I know anyone in my age bracket who doesn’t suffer from lonliness, anxiety, and depression in some form or another.
