it's a bit different in this one! i'm still sussing out the curly-jimmy side (except the two bros chilling in a fresh grave, five feet apart etc etc you know how it is), but let me tell you about anya-jimmy.

curly is...pretty agoraphobic. he doesn't leave the house except for work reasons, and doesn't feel secure accompanying anya once she starts thirsting for the Human Experience. luckily, his good buddy jimmy offers his help, how nice, and takes anya to places he himself frequents, in the seedier parts of the city. anya is excited to learn everything she can about life, is grateful to jimmy for hanging out with her, and fully considers them to be friends -- and when one of their acquaintances assumes there is something going on between them, she becomes thrilled at the idea of exploring this part of life too.

jimmy, however, shuts her down hard, and in a very mean way. he robs and mangles corpses, he doesn't fuck them ☝️ a man with standards frfr

his family immigrated to england following the great famine, so he grew up in less than ideal circumstances, dealing with everything from chronic scarcity mindset (inherited generational trauma of families living with extreme resource insecurity even if the situation improved somewhat after migration) to prejudice against the irish. fate hadn't dealt him a kind hand for sure, and he definitely let it influence his path as he was growing up.

jimmy's mother was employed at curly's family's household (until his parents died and everything fell apart), and when it became more and more apparent that curly was growing up odd and lonely and poorly adjusted, his mother invited jimmy into the household too so that curly would have a seemingly much better adjusted, scrappy peer to grow up alongside (his father was very much against social mixing like this but he himself married up so his opinion didn't hold much weight)

and so, curly got a friend, and jimmy got someone to project his grievances onto. surely this will only lead to good things.
