Gender Equality
This week our learning materials were about intersectionality and equality for all, specifically on social media. I chose to focus solely on gender equality for my Tumblr blog. This topic is as relevant for every young man around my age as it is anyone. My peers, friends and myself have the ability to shift the narrative ourselves through our actions and it is possible. Inclusion should not be a struggle but it will require breaking some of the norms that some people have come to expect nowadays. A large problem is the objectification of women on social media, which is sometimes incorrectly blamed on the women themselves. Changing the mindset of the masses starts with the younger generation and will grow as outdated perspectives become futile. Personally I need to hold myself and my peers accountable to be respectful, inclusive and take accountability for changing the environment on social media regarding the treatment of not only women, but everyone.
