One common misconception is how long Dokken was in existence before they were recognized, and even before the release of Breaking the Chains. Like a lot of 80s bands, they had a rapidly changing lineup with development going back to the late 70s.

This picture from the VERY early Dokken era. Not easy to find pictures pre-1980. This one is from the cover of a single release in 1978 called Hard Rock Woman. Don would have been about 24 or 25 at this time. (His doe eyes in this picture!)

Seems to be an image taken around the same time as the Unchain the Night home video documentary... Mick and Don are wearing the same clothes, and I think Jeff just took off a layer. (Definitely Under Lock and Key tour era)

Reblogging to add… I can’t tell for sure, but based on Mick’s doe-eyed and baby-faced (read: utterly adorable) appearance he had during the early Tooth and Nail days and earlier, there’s no Tooth and Nail stuff in sight (just Breaking the Chains), Don has hair about the right length for the era but it isn’t curled yet like it was in the music videos, and Warren isn’t as glammed out as he would have been with the Ratt guys but has a very young appearance -this could have been when George was trying out for the Ozzy gig and when Warren had a brief stint with Dokken (having been the would-be replacement for George at the time!)
