i was 8 when i first watched roger play. i had just started playing tennis and here was this man in every store i went to buy tennis merchandise in, at every tournament, at the top of his game but with a constant delight at playing the sport which made me excited to watch and play a sport for the first time in my life. for years and years, it never went away. i don't think it ever will. my love for roger has been a constant in my life, i've spent 15 years as a fan, that's more than twice the number of years that i've not been a fan. and i still can't recall a single moment where it looked like he was giving up. or he wasn't giving his best. i think as much as i love and adore roger the artistic player, roger the champion, i think roger the dedicated player still remains my favourite. it's so overlooked in the grand scheme of things, he has so many great qualities about him, of course it does but to me it's always stood out so much. i've never known a champion other than roger, and i probably never will with the standard he's set in the sport, both on and off the court. tennis genuinely will feel his loss from the sport so terribly and so will i. i love you, roger, and i hope nothing but the best for you. 🤍
