There are many things I hold sacred, most importantly, this planet and our experience while standing on it. In recent years, I have felt strong gravitational pull to take as much of my work as possible in a direction creating positive impact on just this; our planet, our experience here and the relationship between the two. The spaces where these things collide are most often not under a roof. When I best connect to this wild universe, my family and my friends, I am outside. Since taking office, Trump has launched an unprecedented attack on one of our country’s greatest assets; our public lands. Shocked by his actions here (and otherwise), this video is the first in a 6-part series to further bring awareness to this arena. I have a son. I want him to also have the ability to someday disconnect from his busy life and to connect with his kids, as I do with him, in our protected, open, wild spaces; spaces we simply cannot take for granted. What I would do to bring back all the friends I have lost in the mountains. In this photo, is the always-grinning, Jonny Copp, on the approach to the Nanda Devi sanctuary, India, where he and @pete_takeda came so close to standing atop Nanda Devi East. While on this trip, Jonny told us a story of a previous trip to India, where a monkey stole his passport and the wild, ensuing weeks gaining a new passport. Somewhere along Johnny’s passport journey, he shaved his head and was on one of many long bus rides, when a local boy turned to Johnny and said, “Sir, you look like a super hero.” Johnny’s account of this multi-week journey, left my stomach hurting from laughter.
