Gizmo (๑ơ ₃ ơ)

So like I just want to say that I am really obsessed with Rapunzel and Eugene’s backstory before she starts her 3-year journey, it’s like astronomically devastating and it reminds me of It Ain’t Me, Babe (specifically the Timothée Chalamet version, although I do think that the Johnny Cash version is better) I think the lyrics fit stupidly well, with “Go away from my window, leave at your own chosen speed” at the beginning of their relationship, where Eugene climbs onto her balcony and they meet for the first time. And as they gradually start developing a friendship/relationship, they definitely remind me of “I’m not the one you want, Babe—I’m not the one you need” because Eugene isn’t royalty and they can’t officially be together, giving them the Romeo and Juliet treatment (that I really love) just ughfhfhf. Their love is doomed, their love is dead!

Ive been envisioning an animatic to that song with that part of the fic for a while now, and maybe it’ll happen someday. No promises because I’m currently working scenic and ensemble in a musical and the tap number is killing me and I’m just so so busy all the time, but maybe it’ll come to me in a dream or something.

I also, obviously, realllyyyyy love Varigo in this fic. They’re just so perfect. I like their balance with resentment but gradual and quiet acts and gestures of affection, like what I drew here—the scene where Varian’s hacking his brains out and Hugo ties his hair back. VERY NEAT! (The drawing itself has a few changes to maybe how their outfits were described and the setting but shhhh I’m my own creative direction!) I loved that scene a lot because it humanized Hugo a little bit without making him go completely soft so early into the story. I just love how they’re written here it’s so nice and I’m obsessed with how they’re always characterized (thank you Holmes! It’s like you knew them personally in a past life or something like SERIOUSLY. You have them ON POINT)

Side note but I really like how Varian accidentally killed the captain prior to him. It’s like weirdly in character for him and I bet it just eats him up inside because it was totally a mistake and now everyone thinks he can cast spells or something LMAO.
