My Dad passed away on January 29, 2012. Not a day goes by that I don't think of him and miss him. Often described by the people who knew him well as: "the smartest guy they ever knew"--I was fortunate to be the recipient of various pieces of wisdom every now and then. They would sometimes come in the form of a short or very long email.

After he passed, I retrieved all of the emails I could find from him and transferred them to a separate file. On nights like tonight, when I find myself wishing that I could have another conversation with him--I will browse this repository of saved emails. One particular quote (he was big on quotes) that I have extracted from a larger email he had sent caught my attention (not for the first time) tonight:

“Morale is when your hands and feet keep on working when your head says it can't be done and the only ideas that will work for you are the ones you put to work.”

Since late 2009, I've thought about learning to code. In 2011, I launched an iPhone app (outsourcing to an indie development firm). I wanted to build the product myself, but I was very eager to take the idea I had, and put it into the world as something people would find useful. So, I went the outsourcing route while taking care of everything else. This spring, I actually sat down and began the quest of learning to code. What you see with my personal website is a goal being met within the quest: to launch a simple, personal website. The ultimate goal? Obtain the ability to build web startups that fulfill the needs of others and solve major pain-points.
