As machines learn to play old Atari games like Space Invaders, Video Pinball, and Breakout, they're also learning to navigate the real world.
Do You Wanna Build a Robot?
an FRC-themed cover/parody of Do You Wanna Build a Snowman from Frozen.
lyrics:
Do you wanna build a robot?
Come on we canât delay
Because we only have six weeks
To pull this off
And put in in a bag
We got the animation
And now weâre off
To work on this âtil we cry-
Do you wanna build a robot?
It doesnât have to be a robot.
(Yes it does, dude.)
Okay, fineâŚ
Do you wanna build a robot?
The competitionâs on the way
I think weâve almost got the bumpers done
And then weâre on
to finishing the frame-
(So far, it drives!)
It gets a little tiring
Staying in the shop,
Just watching the hours tick by-
(Tic-Tock, Tic-Tock, Tic-Tock, Tic-Tock, Tic-Tock)
(Orchestral)
Thereâs only one more hour,
And we still need to finish up
The graphic panels arenât printed yet
And we still need
To get them on the bot
The bag time is approaching
That red zip tie
Is threatâning to ruin our lives.
I canât believe we made a robotâŚ
i will admit i did not practice enough so my voice isnt great in this, and the rhythm is off in a few places
still i had fun
This is fantastic! Do you want to build a Robot

Humans Love Space Robots- Say Hello To Robonaut They are about to boldly go where no man has gone before. âTheyâ of course being the space robots. Ever since human beings have had the opportunity to explore space, we have sent up robots as surrogates, scouts, and partners. During a recent trip to the National Air and Space Museum in Washington, DC, I had the pleasure of seeing a couple of these bad boys up close and personal. This experience made me wonder, are robots the future of space travel? "NASA has explored with robots for more than a decade, from the stalwart rovers on Mars to R2 on the station," said Michael Gazarik, NASA's associate administrator for space technology in Washington. "Our investment in robotic technology development is helping us to bolster productivity by applying robotics technology and devices to fortify and enhance individual human capabilities, performance and safety in space." Meet Robonaut According to NASAâs own website, Robonaut is a dexterous humanoid robot that will help expand our ability for construction and discovery. NASAâs goal is to build machines with dexterity that exceeds that of a suited astronaut. This particular robot does exactly that which makes it different than most other space robots. Typical current space robots are complex systems such as robotic arms, cranes, and rovers. They are designed specifically to move larger objects from place to place. Robonaut is unique because it can complete tasks that require more skill and dexterity. This makes it an obvious asset in space. There are currently four Robonaut robots. NASA starting working on the first one back in 1996, and with the current advances in technology the engineers have drastically improved the capabilities. Right now we are living in an exciting time for space travel. Now, and in the future, robots will be a critical partner for humans in space exploration. Much like the future for all robots in space, the future for Robonaut is still unknown. NASA says that if testing inside the space station goes well, maybe someday Robonaut will get to go outside into the great vastness of space.

MAY THE FORCE AWAKENDo you see that the robot force is now awakening? Do have visions in your head of a future that includes robots living alongside men as companions and helpers? Ever so connected and augmented is our realities and consciousness. As the stars align, so do the mighty forces brought forth. Now, taking that next step in the collaboration of two great forces, Star Wars and the BB-8 Robot. What a December it will be! As the release of the new Star Wars: The Force Awakens movie, the Christmas trees and stockings will be stuffed with the joy of a toy robot droid like never before. Make no mistake, this is no ordinary toy, and similarly this is no ordinary force.Sphero has delivered a toy that now adapts to our unique individual personalities. This is more than just a toy, this is a companion. The vision of Sphero is to create connected entertainment robots. By connected, they mean connected to us and also connected to the internet. Theyâre aware and their fundamental purpose is to entertain us and to relate to us. âAlways in Motion is the Futureâ- YodaIs the dark side of the force behind this exponential emergence of technology? Or perhaps the Jedi Order will maintain peace and justice throughout the galaxy. Where will the future take us? Do you see that the robot force is now awakening?

Flourishing Humans and Squishy Robots - Air, Water, Food Letâs face it. Plenty of healthy food, clean water, and cozy homes are never a bad thing. In fact itâs easy to say the more the merrier. Robots can and do help with the abundance all of these. The ATMOBOT is clearly a robot of fresh air. It moves around in search of dust, dander, dirt and odors and cleans. Once any of these are detected, it remains there until it deems the area clean. With regard for food, it has been said that our current ecological footprint for food production is bigger than the size of South America. The problem is that the current type of cities we live in can be seen as âblack boxes,â with resources (water, energy, food) going in and only waste going out.â Dickson Despommier describes the obvious answer to this problem: Create Eco-cities, also know as vertical farms. That is, we should recreate our food and water by separating from our waste the water-part and the solid-part. The residents of our cities can do the same things astronauts do to maintain life in space. But how do we begin to do this? Enter the Harvest Automation: HV-100 and Dean Kamenâs Slingshot Water Purifier. The HV-100 is especially useful in eco-cities. From seedlings to prospective foodstuff, from evergreens to melon produce, taking care of the needs of plants and crops requires full attention. Each plant or crop requires differing amounts of time being closer to fresh water sources and sunlight. It is easy to imagine how useful these bots are for doing all of this relocating in an new eco-city. Just as an Eco-city requires separating the solid-part and the water-part of our eco-residentsâ waste, so does Dean Kamenâs slingshot separates contaminanted liquids to purified water. With contaminated drinking water being a major source of disease of third-world countries, the usefulness of the slingshot is beyond ecological cities and helps the poor residents of the world leapfrog away from disease into a more healthy world.

Imagine our kids waking up one weekend morning and actually creating something they will play with for the rest of the week. Within a decade or sooner, every kid will be able to do just that. After breakfast, little Jacob could go straight into a space in virtual reality, design a toy and animate it - a talent that is already quickly moving from the educated computer animator to the everyday hobbyist. Jacob wonât settle for old erector sets or Lincoln logs. He will send his creations to a device in the home to be âprintedâ or synthesized in full capacity - sometimes even without the loss of its animation - so that he can experience these things at all times. The complexity of his creations will look eerily lifelike, known as the uncanny valley, or even alien.
