idk why every single writer who tries to make megatron more than a villain feels the need to align him with op in some way, shape, or form before the war. it would be one thing if *some* stories did it and others didn't, but it's all of them. every single one. even earthspark. even though it's completely irrelevant and unnecessary to the rest of that story. franchise jumped straight from “enemies forever” to “friends/political allies to enemies to friends/strained allies” without the simplest “enemies to friends” step first. is it hard to believe that a guy who sucks hard would change for the better or realign his interests? if anything, giving him a “good” past before he went “bad” lessens the drama of the later change. it enables you to hold “millions of years of warmongering & cruelty” in your brain and put it aside, instead of it staying as a permanent abyss around which megatron, everyone affected by megatron, and the audience have to navigate. DO YOU BELIEVE IN FUNDAMENTAL CHANGE, YES OR NO? afaik, earthspark is the only one that pulls this off… if you ignore the one tacked-on TFP lore “buddies before the war” line.
