The Night I Put The Past Behind
Word count: 426
Drabble using Jason Manns song “Put the Past Behind”
Summary: OFC recalls the night she made a change in her life, and the person who helped her through it
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------I remember that night well, I was sitting in my room the words from my friend echoing in my head, I wish you didn't care about where you've been. My past had gotten to me again, another night of pain and reliving the fights. I searched in vain for the things I saw, but I never learned to love me. Moving on hadn’t been easy, I was stuck with no hope for a better life. I remembered the fight with my ex.
“Why did you choose her, why couldn’t you love me?” The pain visible in my voice as I fell to my knees sobbing. I couldn’t believe this was happening. He looked over with an expression clear as day that said he was done, “I just don’t have time for this, you’ll be fine” and he left. Just like that. Anytime he told you fine, he’s in pain left behind.
My friend, the wise one would tell me, the happiness you take is only what you make, so easy to say or sing but what did that really mean? Sometimes the only joy I would find would be laughing at my ex’s pain in life and relationships that I would hear about from friends. He couldn’t really ever be happy without me, could he?
I know you’ve had it rough, but you’ve carried it enough. Time to put the past behind you and move on
The words my friend spoke, the ones about moving on sounded so hard. Can change really happen without leaving a sting? How do I let him go? How does the love go away? Will I ever be okay?
That night I was just tired of being kicked to the grown by him, me and allowing that to happen. I looked at myself and said, “Get up, eyes up ahead... and a future’s found”.
I knew if I stayed in pain, where I was, my heart would stay in disarray. I had to leave him and it all behind, the secret was realizing that I deserved better.
My friend was there for me, he was my rock who empowered me through all of this. We don’t talk anymore, but I know he’s out there living a good life. As for my ex, I may not have gotten the closure I need then, but I created my own eventually.
You never smile at another’s pain, on your soul it’ll leave a stain I know you’ve had it rough, but you’ve carried it enough Time to put the past behind and move on

Summary: Y/N loves to sing and so she moved to California to make her dream come true with the help of a very important lyric.

Louden Swain X Reader
You moved to California, it was the biggest step you had taken in your life. From the moment you landed in LAX you knew this was the place for you. Even though you were out here by yourself you were hell bent on reaching your dram of becoming a singer.
You woke up every morning reciting the lyric that kept you going “Life is Profound be Who You Wanna Be”. This is from the song CA Nation by Louden Swain, your favorite band. This song has given you the strength and solidified your decision to move out here. As a musician yourself, you had covered that song many times. Everyone who knew you, knew what these guys and those lyrics meant to you.
So here you are about to go perform at a local bar, a cover of Hallelujah, an original song, and lastly CA Nation.
You look out into the crowd as you sit with your acoustic guitar, you cant see much because of the lights. You start to play and the crowd loves you.
When your done with Hallelujah you talk to the crowd, “Hi guys, I’m Y/N. The next song I’ll be playing is a cover from my favorite band Louden Swain. This song means so much to me, and the lyrics keep me going. This is CA Nation”
Your’e about to start playing when you hear these loud rowdy guys scream “Yeah wooohoooooo, go Y/N. We love you too”
You stop and look out and you focus on them till you can make out four bodies, as you look closer, you start to realize that you recognize them. A second more of staring and you realize its Louden Swain. You freeze up, you get this look of fear and you think ‘I cant do this’. Except that you said that out loud, you saw they’re faces frown. They turned and spoke for a minute, then turned back and walked towards you with smiling faces…
That was night you met your idols, the night you sang with them, and the night you indeed realized, life is profound and you could be who you wanted to be.

As I’ve done for Louden Swain in the past, so shall I do for Jason Manns in Vegas! But only with your help!
Jason Manns has been an adjacent part of our show for over a decade, now. His music has been featured on the show, and he’s close friends with many of the cast, as well as a frequent collaborator with them, which has brought us so many projects with our favorites! In order to thank him for everything he does for us, I want us to do for him what we’ve done for Louden Swain.
