day day, thinking love

“honestly, i don’t know if it’s scary…” jinyoung admits, though one glance at the screen tells him it’s not that bad. sure it’s somewhat violent because the goal is to battle opponents but it doesn’t seem bloody like other fighting games he’s seen, mortal kombat being one example. “i guess we’ll have to fight against each other,” he says with a playful grin, nudging at her side. he watches mina fondly as she tries to navigate the mode selection screen. why is it that everything she does is adorable? he hopes she doesn’t end up being secretly good at games because he’s in for a bitter defeat. jinyoung sucks at any game he’s ever tried.

“yes, select that.” he points at the right thing and places himself in front of the other controller. “now we have to choose the character we want…” jinyoung takes a moment to look at them, going in blindly because he has no idea what kind of weapons they use, their special combos or anything like that. they’ll need to figure it out as they go. “mmm, i guess… superman? you?”

if she ever manages to beat her boyfriend in this, it would only be due to beginner's luck and the power of keysmashing. because that's all she plans on doing. indeed, scary wasn't the right word, but it does scream violent and dark. she cannot understand people's interest in such entertainments. games in general never manage to grab her interest for long. the game she played the longest was 'candy crush' even this, after a while, she grew tired of.

don’t get him wrong, he doesn’t mind going outside. if he’s in good company, or even alone, jinyoung can be at ease anywhere. he prefers lesser busy locations, unlike mina who’s comfortable even when surrounded by a lot of people. they find compromise in dates like these once in a while, just staying in his apartment all day, watching movies and cuddling. it balances everything out perfectly between one’s need to socialize and the other’s need for more tranquility. they both find solace in this arrangement and maybe this is why their relationship works out so well. no one overpowers the other. jinyoung respects mina’s needs too much to demand anything of her without returning the favor.

he’s been reading while she took a shower and did her skincare routine, patiently waiting for her to be done. honestly, when he gets lost into a story, jinyoung could wait like this forever and not really notice time passing by. but he can’t miss the soft thud of her body sitting on his lap, and the sweet scent of her freshly washed hair and she moves closer. it draws his attention away from the book. her question makes him chuckle. “if they were, i wouldn’t need you,” he teases, brushing his nose against hers. “hey, do you want to go out to eat tonight? i want to take you somewhere fancy… i’d let you dress us up.”

mina shines so brightly and before falling in love with her, jinyoung thought he would never be able to handle it. he didn’t think his shadow deserved such light. but he’s come to realize that one goes with the other and maybe it’s why they fit so well. it’s never too much, it’s never one-sided. they both give and take the same amount, though sometimes one needs more support than the other. they end up keeping a perfect balance so that neither feels overwhelmed. the way she reacts to such a simple thing such as ice cream is enough to paint a smile on the man’s face. she’s as sweet as can be and his heart swells at the mere sight of her.

“hey, it wasn’t so bad, was it?” she could argue that he poked fun at her very basic drawing skills but she isn’t as bad as she makes it seem. “you don’t want your boyfriend to be talented? i see how it is.” he chuckles, looking at her. he understands what she means. mina wouldn’t be the first to complain that jinyoung always seems to pick things up really fast and have a natural ability at everything he does. which isn’t entirely true. there are a lot of things he’s bad at, but perhaps he’s better at hiding it than most people. with video games, for example… “my dad barely knows how to send texts so trust me, you’re safe.”

he watches people play the three highlighted games, and none really catch his interest. he’s never understood the appeal with dance dance revolution: it’s just rhythm based. if he feels like dancing he’ll just do it for real. same with fifa. if he wants to play the sport, he’ll do it for real. “should we try injustice 2?”

his smile make her smile, and when she's by his side, it's easy to see that she's the happiest woman on earth. "talk for yourself!" she exclaims with a soft laugh. her writing is beautiful and has been praised many times by her teachers. but writing is another game. she believes that anyone who has an eye for matching colors perfectly on a drawing isn't a normal human being. having an eye for those kind of things must be a mutation of some sort. his comment about his father make her laugh and stare at him fondly because she could very well picture jinyoung being the same if he was the same age as his dad. he's an old soul in a young body in a way. that's why her parents like him so much. his aura and manners are everything parents can dream of for their daughter.

it’s a known fact that park jinyoung hates shopping with a passion. only his good looks saved him in the past but ever since he met mina, she made him her number one fashion cause. she already thought he was extremely handsome as is and simply polished him a little bit. jinyoung lets her do whatever she wants because he loves her. she usually knows better than to drag him to the mall, but his wardrobe is apparently due and he has money now. 

they separated for a few minutes when she met a friend from her workplace. she’s been absent from there for a while and couldn’t pass on the opportunity to catch up on the latest gossip. jinyoung told her he would be over the gaming event, the only distraction he could think of on short notice that did not involve peeking inside stores or getting food. after briefly talking with a few people he knew, they finally find themselves alone again. he waited for her with ice cream as promised, and they walk hand in hand while eating it, checking out people playing the games. some did pretty well, others quite blatantly sucked. “did you want to try one?” jinyoung is not a gamer. he does play games with friends sometimes, but rarely on his own.

the three things mina loves the most in this world are her boyfriend, clothes and makeup (in this very order). she also likes playing with her hair and looking pretty in general. she's convinced she was born to be constantly dolled up and spend the rest of her life with jinyoung. nothing else. except maybe put some fashion sense in the lost cause that jinyoung seems to be. but as lazy as she can get, it's a challenge that she's decided to take on. and slowly over the course of 600+ days, she seems to be getting somewhere. actually, the sigh of him as she walked towards him made her lose her breath and think 'woah, that's really my boyfriend' once again. and she smiled from ear to ear, eyes turning to crescents. she always welcomes in with her brightest smile. it's not something that she forces; its something that feels deep inside for this man. the mall is packed, but she only sees him. "you got my ice cream!" mina exclaims with joy, as if she didn't expect him to do it. she should know by now that he would've since she asked, however, she doesn't want to take his acts of kindness for granted. this is why after over 1 year and a half together, she still remains amazed by the little (and big) things he does for her. "thank you oppa." she tiptoes to place a small and quick kiss on her cheek. 

he keeps her in his embrace for as long as she stays silent, not breaking it himself and waiting until she feels reassured enough. as terrified as the news make jinyoung, he would never want to put that burden on her. they’re not even certain that she is, indeed, pregnant yet. unless he misunderstood something. when she starts sharing the other reason behind her nervousness he just hugs her tighter. 

“mina…” he knows why she never told him, though he would have liked her to do so. they’re not years into their relationship yet and there’s still a lot of things they don’t know about the other. you don’t just open up about your past on the first date, and even on the first year. “are you scared it could be dangerous if you’re pregnant?” it’s more of a rhetorical question. he knows the answer is yes. and it’s understandable that she would be.

he pulls away from the hug to cup her face. “have you taken a test? are you too embarrassed to buy one yourself?” he thinks it could be the case. there’s already a stigma about having a baby at a very young age, but in a society like theirs, it’s even a stigma if you’re unmarried. plus there’s always the possibility of someone finding out. like her brother, for example. “i know it’s scary, but i’ll be with you. and if it’s positive, we’ll figure everything out.” while it was never in his plans to start a family so early, and with such unstable finances, but if it’s how it’s going to be, he will never leave her.

she's calmed down now. his warmth and soothing aura working its full effect on her confused and scared mind and she nods at his question. it's not that it could be dangerous; she has a chance on ten of having a normal pregnancy. so ninety percent chances of having complications; that's how her doctor back in jeju put it. she's considering telling him more about her past, more about what she had to go through as a kid. it's a missing piece of a puzzle that explains her family dynamics in a way, it's a missing piece of her own puzzle. but what if the way he sees her changes?

raising her brows, yoojung almost thinks that she’s going to have to raise her voice until mina laughs and whines at yoojung – and maybe she shouldn’t have been so concerned. not only that, but yoojung realizes by mina’s statement that maybe she should finally actually unpack all of her things – but that was a problem for another day. for now, she had to deal with the fact that mina was telling her to take her things. “ i – what ? ” yoojung questions the moment the words leave mina’s lips. because it’s … well, odd. yoojung’s known mina long enough to know that her friend likes to collect a lot of things – most importantly clothes. it wasn’t like yoojung thought mina was a hoarder or anything, he just had accumulated a lot of stuff in the time yoojung’s known her – and by stuff, she means … well, clothes. so for mina to just be giving them away ?

“ so, explain this to me … ” yoojung starts, tapping a finger lightly against her chin. “ you’re like … konmari-ing all of your stuff and you … want me to pick out … clothes ? ” she asks, brows seeming to furrow deeper. “ we’re not going to get into your clothing collection, that’s … ” she waves her hand in the air – “ i wouldn’t say you’re brother’s, like, wrong – but whatever. you … ? why ? ” she asks – not not before pouting about mina wanting to put her in a dress. “ ahh, let’s not. they’re gonna dress me up like a doll if i ever get to debut. ” she whines. “ don’t get me wrong, i’m like … i’m appreciative that you want to do this, but like … i’m confused, i guess ? ”

he would never seriously laugh at her over something she’s insecure about, but they both chose this activity while fully aware they are not very good. jinyoung just never imagined how bad she actually is. it’s almost cute in a way, the way she gets embarrassed about it and tries to explain why, but then again he finds everything she does extremely endearing so it might not be an objective point of view on his part. “stick figures can be a form of art too, some people make a ton of money drawing comics like these,” he says with a smile, wanting to reassure her. he’s still a good boyfriend despite his teasing.

he tilts his head along with her and nods. “you’re right… almost makes me hungry too,” he chuckles,“ but you’re also right, i should get to it…” he almost wants to add that he’s greatly uninspired by the image but he’s supposed to be recreating it in the first place, which leaves no place for creativity. before he picks up a brush, jinyoung leans over and pecks her cheek, not daring enough to kiss her properly in public, plus he really needs to focus on his ‘art’. minutes later he finally puts the brush down and allows mina to check his work so far. “so? verdict?” it’s not fully done, and it’s not nearly as neat looking as it could if he spent hours on it but it’s… something, he thinks. he’s not even close to being skilled enough to make a career of it or even a legit hobby, but his mom being an arts teacher he picked up a few techniques over the years that make up for his lack of practice.

"really? maybe i should consider this as a career then~" it could be serious considering she has no idea of what she will do with the rest of her life. but rather than finding the first and easiest career path she could find, she wants to find one that she will be able to love and pursue for the rest of her life. at some point, she thought she had found it but not anymore.

sia crinkles her nose at mina, and though her lips are pulled back in a frown, the look in her eyes shines with amusement.  " maybe if you work hard enough, i’ll let you taste some of mine .. i’m not doing all the work for you.“  she reaches out to poke mina in the side, a laugh light in her tone.  ” you can’t just sit here and watch and then eat all the food! that’s not fair ~“ sia hums a little and starts to work in their little cooking area, pulling together all the ingredients to make sure their time together while cooking is going to be easy enough without the pressure of the limit.

she lifts her head, blinking in surprise when she hears mina admit that she watches all of her videos.  ” do you?“ her reaction is genuine  -  though she knows that she has a loyal fanbase who often want her to do her best for herself, it still surprises her to hear that there are people who have watched all the videos she’s ever put out on her channel.  she does a variety of things after all  -  not every fan is there to like everything.  ” i didn’t know ..“ she admits shyly.  it’s true that mina is very obvious when she’s telling a lie and that’s why sia knows that she’s telling the truth now.  ” thank you .. for being so supportive.  i’m glad you got a lot of compliments -“  she frowns, leaning in to poke her again.  ” but next time if you’re doing one of my looks, you have to send me a picture to show me!“

"wait..." she furrows her eyebrows. "are you going to make me do your rolls too?" she asks suspiciously. is this why she says mina is going to need to put in the work for it. "i wasn't going to make you do mine! i'll work hard on making one too." she pleads, expression softening with her brows still knitted together, knowing very well that this expression makes her look at least 3 years younger than she actually is. it (almost) always works with jinyoung.

Olivia nods dutifully. It was not as though she was not paying attention to what Mina was saying. Rather the opposite really. Especially when the other girl seemed conspicuous with something. However, Olivia was oddly talented with being a great multitasker. With eyes scanning the cafe, already listing out the items she would soon hope to possess. She gasped rather dramatically at Mina’s juicy information. “Oh my god. You know someone famous?” Then added with a hiss, “You know Xayah?” How she knew the sexy idol was simple details with Olivia that doesn’t bother looking too much into, especially not when Mina knows an idol. One they could be seeing and talking to now. “C’mon, let’s go find her.”

“Yes, Mina-unnie. We hit people, especially those who–” Body almost instinctively moving as she grabs the tall Luxe tumbler just before it was taken by a preteen. Who Olivia nastily glares out before turning back some of her attention Mina. “would steal our food.” She finishes off as she leads them towards the till. 

“An Idol.” For what felt like the first time that evening she turned to her friend. “I haven’t really thought of it. Reckon it would be nice though. Mean look at all this right? Who wouldn’t want people starting a moshpit for them?” A snarky rhetorical question was placed in the end, but Olivia was honest with everything else she spoke of. “What about you? Wanna take up the center stage with them flashy booty shorts looking like things?”

hearing oliva's exclamation, mina doubts she understood the situation properly. "i don't know her!" she quickly corrects. she doesn't want to be accused of saying things she hasn't. "i only know her brother..." she clarifies, looking slightly gloomy. "slow down!" she grabs the younger's one arm before she does anything reckless. "we're not finding anyone today." wew, the energy of this child. she's going to have white hair by the end of the day."

mina cannot say she agrees with the younger one's ways, but she does manage to grab a cute key chain with luxe's logo  as well as some photocards. since she's benefited, she cannot complain after all. she's grateful that olivia drags her away and that no women or men were injured in this adventure. not yet at least. as long as they aren't out of the cafe, anything could happen. 

there’s a dark cloud hanging above her head and he can’t figure out why. maybe she feels sick and it’s making her doubt everything all of a sudden? but she’s been feeling under the weather before and it’s never made her so insecure and on the verge of tears at the thought of sharing what’s wrong. so far they’ve always managed to be honest with each other so for her to suddenly close up like this isn’t normal.

he doesn’t know what else to do than hold her hands, stroking their back with his thumbs in a failed attempt to comfort her. then he waits patiently until she either calms down or feels ready to tell him what happened. 

the shock is brutal when she does.

“w-what?” he hesitates at first, thinking he might have misinterpreted her words, but the panic in her eyes is enough for jinyoung to reject the possibility. no, he heard right, and he understood the underlying meaning behind it. “and by late you mean enough for it to be… worrisome?” he might not be an expert on the subject but he’s learned enough to know things can happen sometimes. “it’s not your fault…come here.” he pulls her gently into a hug and they stay like this for a moment.

she can see and feel his shock. he seems hesitant she feels scared, she's ready to pull her hands away before he does it first, she's ready to storm out before he tells him to get out of his sight. but she can't move, she's frozen and her legs feel week. she nods to his question, because there is no way she can talk anymore. 

it's been over a year. a year and some months, and she still doesn't know what she did in her past life to deserve this man. maybe she saved the peninsula. or the whole world. it had to be that. because instead of being upset or repulsed, he wraps his arms around her. "you really think so?" he comforts her and she cries again and even more. she wraps her arms around his broad shoulders and hides her face in his neck. he smells and feels so good. her heart swells whenever she's next to him. and while she dreams of one day having a family with his, this day hasn't come. and there's a but. a huge but.

it’s no surprise to mina that olivia would have ella as her favorite. she herself has to admit that she would kill just to have the body of ella. but her heart lays elsewhere. she pushes her lips out in a small pout. it’s a complicated situation. “i really liked xayah…” she begins. “but i learned she’s the sister of–” she looks over her shoulder, making sure that no one is listening. “i don’t know if i should say it actually.” however, she cannot stop there now that she has started. it’s against her nature. she lowers her voice in almost a whisper. words spoken just for olivia to hear. “her brother is friends with my boyfriend. and it’s not that i don’t like him,” she quickly adds the last part (she doesn’t want the younger one to think she’s the jealous and possessive type!) “but you know, boys and their… bromances.” okay yes, maybe sometimes she’s a little bit jealous of the proximity of the two. to the point that she feels it’s a blessing that yien has a career that keeps him too busy to be able to often hang out with jinyoung. “so, it’s a little weird to bias his sister. i think…” yet, she admires xayah so much. mina would love to be this hot and sexy and cool and bad ass (something that makes her roll her eyes when it comes to men). “i really want to meet cheri and zoe though!” that’s the conclusion she comes to.
