when people in hawkins think of steve, they think: the golden boy, high school heart throb, nice house, rich parents. the perfect life.

but really, steve is slowly crumbling, his world being destroyed before his eyes, unable to stop it.

absent parents, cheating girlfriends. so called friends who really just use him, get him into trouble. friends who quickly turn against him when a new “king” comes into town.

he becomes part of a group that were previously friends, unsure where he fits amongst them. the only way anyone notices him is when he’s doing something dangerous. so he keeps doing it.

keeps throwing himself into the mouth of the demogorgons. keeps volunteering to venture into the upside down. stands toe to toe with billy and fights off the russians.

when eddie dies, dustin completely pushes steve away, believing the safest thing is to distance himself. robin spends more time with vickie.
