The Case Outline is as follows: Machi Tobaye, a pianist working with songstress Larimoir, shot and killed his manager with a 45-caliber revolver.
First off, The Judge asked the court for some words of comforting to give to The Chief Justice, who's son has been diagnosed with Incuritis, a terminal illness. Klavier Gavin then gave his opening statement, and presented the court with Romein Letouse's autopsy report. Letouse was struck in the shoulder, and although death was not immediate, the blood loss was so intense he could not be saved. Two shots were fired, one missing and hitting the wall, and the other going straight through Letouse's shoulder before landing next to the other bullet hole. The caliber of the weapon would also injure someone not used to firing it.
The crime scene is backstage, in the dressing room. There is one door to the dressing room that functions as both an entrance and exit, and two witnesses ran in as soon as they heard the gunshots, to find the room empty besides the body, meaning exit would be impossible for anyone but the defendant, and with that, Gavin called up Ema Skye to the stand, a detective who was on security at the concert.
She begun her testimony, telling the court that she was on security due to Gavin requesting her, and that only people involved in the concert were allowed backstage. During the third set, she heard the gunshots, and ran inside to find Letouse's corpse amid the rock music blaring on the room's speakers. She examined the room and determined the only culprit could've been Tobaye.
Justice asked why Gavin requested her as security, and she was asked to do so due to a series of problems plaguing Gavin that morning.
He also revealed to the court he was talking to Skye backstage when the shots were fired, and he and Skye were the two witnesses that found Letouse in the dressing room. Skye was sure the song that was playing at the time was "Guilty Love", meaning each member of The Gavinners was on stage at the time.
Justice asked how it could be that Tobaye is the only one who could've done the crime, and Skye pointed out the one exit anyone could've taken, the air vent in the ceiling. There is a small window in the back of the room, but it barely cracks open. And the air vent is too small for anyone but a child to get through it. Justice tried to object, but Skye told the court that evidence was found of his fingerprints on the vent's grill.
The Judge was about to hand down his verdict, but Justice objected, claiming he had contradicting evidence, and presented the court with a third witness. He then told the court that while Skye was getting backup, he ran to Letouse's side, where he heard his last words, telling him "The Witness is The Siren." And with that he called Lamiroir to the stand, due to one of her popular nicknames being "The Siren of the Ballad."
Lamiroir came up to the stand, shocking the court with the news that she can speak English, after pretending previously during her career that she could only speak Borginian. Gavin gave the court some more shocking news regarding her, that she suffers from amnesia regarding her past, and that she remembers nothing from before she became "Lamiroir."
She asked why she was called up as a witness, due to being kept in the dark regarding the murder; yet Justice still requested her to testify.
She said she saw nothing, she was just on stage briefly for the second set, and didn't return backstage until the police escorted her to The Gavinners' dressing room, where she learned a tragedy had happened, but got no further details. Justice asked her to clarify more about "not returning backstage", to which she replied that she stayed behind to help clean up. He objected to it, presenting the court with Lamiroir's brooch, which she wore during The Guitar's Serenade. The brooch was found on the floor of the scene of the crime, and it could've only dropped there after she had been on stage. She said she only went backstage for a short moment, where she glanced into the room for a split second, before leaving. She told the court she cracked the door open, and when Justice screamed "Who's there!" at her, she left immediately. She added to her testimony that she saw nothing, due to Letouse's body being behind a wall.
Justice stared at her, and pointed out that she swallowed nervously when she brought up Letouse's body. She said she did so because of how terrible the death was, that her manager was shot. Justice pointed out the contradiction, and presented the court with an Investigation Request, one that said no one should know about the incident besides there being a death, and so she shouldn't have been able to know how he died. She amended her testimony, saying she could tell he had been shot due to the bullet holes in the wall. But if she just took a quick glance in the room before leaving, she wouldn't have seen them, due to them being on the same wall as the door.
So she began her second testimony, explaining that she witnessed the murder from the tiny window in the back of the dressing room, and although she couldn't tell who it was, she could tell it was an adult who killed Letouse. When pressed more about the killer, she claimed it was a young adult man, and she clearly heard he speak to Letouse.
Both the Defense and the Prosecution found issue with her new testimony, due to the window being closed at the time of the crime, and there being no way for the killer to exit the room if he was an adult.
And with that, Gavin asked for Larimoir to be excused, and for Skye to continue speaking.
She recounted where she left off, about how they found the defendant's fingerprints on the air vent's grill, and only people involved in the concert were allowed backstage at all. The Judge, looking back at the detective's report, asked about the curious nature in how he was arrested, with the body briefly going missing before being found atop the stage tower, clutching a guitar, with Tobaye laying down next to it.
Skye testified that Tobaye likely moved the body to fit the lyrics of the song he performed earlier, and that no one in the country has a motive, furthermore, his "signature" was left on the scene.
Gavin explained what Skye meant by fitting the lyrics, and that earlier that day his keys were stolen, then, his guitar was set on fire during this song, and a bullet took away Letouse's life; and to end it all off, Tobaye and Letouse were sent up together to the sky.
Justice Objected that Letouse could've been in the country before, due to speaking english, but Skye had already looked into it, and he learned English in Borginia, his first time in the country was for the concert.
Justice asked what she meant by "signature", and she said it was the two bullet holes. Due to his blindness, it makes sense that he would miss one shot. Justice Objected, that for the same reason, how would he know where the air vent was? Skye told him that ventilation maintenance was scheduled for that day, which everyone taking part in the concert knew about, and there was also stepladders near every vent. Taking a moment to review the evidence, Justice Objects that the killer was blind, and presented the court with the photo of the body.
He pointed out the smeared blood in front of Letouse, and the weird shape it was in, and concluded that he tried to write a message in his blood, and that the killer tried to wipe it away, which the killer would only know about if he could see it.
Gavin then produced a shocking piece of evidence to the court, with some documents that took some time to get to him, proving that Tobaye can see perfectly fine, and him being blind was a publicity stint, much like Larimoir's ability to speak English. And the missed bullet shot could've been due to Tobaye's size and strength.
It seemed like it was obvious who the killer was, but Skye took a good look at the crime scene photo, and determined that with Luminol, a chemical that reacts to blood, they should be able to find out what Letouse was writing. After doing the test, they found he wrote "IPXX314206", which Gavin identified as an Interpol ID number. He quickly called his fellow bandmember Daryan Crescend over, who went to check the database for the ID number.
While Crescend went to find the owner of that ID number, Gavin asked Justice why he thought that Tobaye pretended to be blind. Justice thought along with his question, and asked if it was for someone else, and presented the court with a postcard of Larimoir. Every time the two performed, she would always lead him around by the hand, everywhere they went. But if he didn't need to be lead around, then it must've been Larimoir who can't see. Gavin asked for Larimoir to return to the stand, to tell the truth about her condition to the court.
She came up to the court and told them that Gavin & Justice were right, that she was the blind one and not Tobaye.
She testified that all she remembers is seeing total darkness, and that only members of her staff know the truth. Due to one of her nicknames being "The Landscape Painter in Sound", she felt it was very important to keep this secret.
He asked if "members of staff" included Letouse, and she agreed; which made Justice realize that before he told him who the witness was, he mumbled "Can't see..." which he presumed Letouse meant himself by.
Larimoir protested that she for sure heard the killer, even though there would've been no way for her to hear a voice through the closed window in the back of the dressing room. In fact, the voice was so clear she'd recognize it in an instant. At that moment Crescend barged in with the results of his investigation of the ID number, and that the agent registered under "IPXX314206" was Romein Letouse, who was undercover as Larimoir's manager. Crescend was also able to identify the murder weapon as Letouse's own revolver. But before they could go any further, Larimoir screamed that Crescend was the murderer, and she was absolutely sure that he was the man who she heard speaking to Letouse before he was killed.
Due to such a sudden accusation, Court has been suspended for today. It will reconvene tomorrow morning.
