It was a stupid decision, Clarissa thought as her hands trembled, covering the wound in her abdomen. David was good at his job; she shouldnât have interfered. But, her heart got in the way. Their town was normally quiet but there was the occasional crazy armed robbery and normally, Clarissa forced herself to relax whenever she knew David was in a dangerous moment. But something had been different today. Clarissa had seen the guy run past the store and she saw how David told him to stop and drop his weapon. She also witnessed when the culprit turned around and aimed the gun at David and saw the intent to kill in his eyes.
She didnât remember when her legs moved or how she made it to where David was but she did remember the excruciating pain that flared through her and the resounding gunshot. Her mind was in shock, not yet putting together that she had been shot. âI-Iâm ble-bleeding.â She whispered as her hand was covered in blood and thatâs all it took for her legs to give out.Â
