All of the forms Jackie takes after her death (a corpse preserved and quite literally frozen in time, handled and arranged like a doll, a roasted meal for the group to ravenously consume, a pile of bones to pray over and apologize to, a necklace that serves as both a reminder and a symbol of sacrifice, a hallucination that haunts and torments, and now an angelic statue to be worshipped and idealized back home) are all so symbolic of how Jackie’s body, her likeness, her image, and her personhood have never truly belonged to her.

Thinking about Jackie Taylor makes me sad. When I first watched yellowjackets, I don't think I fully understood the weight of her character. Even in the earlier scenes, I knew her death of effectively inevitable, but I hadn't processed it yet. When Shauna screams for her to wake up, when she sees her ghost, I saw the grief for Jackie. But I hadn't felt it. I dont' think I fully understood her. My analysis of her character hasn't changed, but it resonates much deeper with me now. I'm even having trouble rewatching the show becasue each scene with her makes me so sad. Everything would be different if she had lived, she is the turning point in the show. The summer ended with her death, the snow fell once her light was no longer protecting her teammates.
