So what's the wildest thing that's true in the Law and Order universe (and just actual L&O, not stuff like which detectives are also on Sesame Street)?
My favorite weird fact is that Detective Stabler punched an astronaut.
i mean, this borders on detectives on Sesame Street, but when he was still in Baltimore, John Munch worked the case that first brought The Three Lone Gunmen of The X-Files together.
oh florence
So another thing about that brief exchange between Norrington and Elizabeth on the Black Pearl, where he says, "You never wondered how your latest fiance ended up on the Flying Dutchman in the first place?" is that, first of all, Norrington, more than anyone, has Jack Sparrow figured out. He can read people so well, especially Elizabeth and Jack, it seems, and I just find that so interesting. He picks up on Elizabeth having a little crush on Jack (which, I mean, is a little obvious and I think he's partially just trying to be petty, but still.)
But that has implications for how he viewed their brief engagement in CotBP. I think deep down, he knew she was really in love with Will, and wasn't fully convinced even by their conversation in that deleted scene, but chose to ignore his own instincts in favor of believing in what he wanted to be true. He knows Elizabeth and he can read people well enough to see what's really going on.
Like, this guy doesn't miss a thing about someone. He knows Will made the sword all along, even though Will doesn't ever take or receive public credit for being the one who does the actual work. And I think that means Norrington also knew it was Will who really apprehended Jack Sparrow in the blacksmith shop. (Which makes it really funny and petty that he gave Mr. Brown all the credit.)
ALSO. When Jack told Elizabeth about Davy Jones and that Will was on the Flying Dutchman... Norrington was only overhearing that conversation because he was off to the side puking from being super drunk. Even in that state he's listening in and putting all the pieces together. (Or, at least holding onto them enough to figure it all out later when he's sober.) And now Elizabeth's the one determined to set her misgivings aside and trust Jack because she really needs to.
Anyway. This got long. Just could not get over the thought of Norrington being super drunk, probably mildly concussed from Elizabeth hitting him over the head, and, while vomiting, still having the presence of mind to listen to the conversation going on behind him and think, "Based on what I know of human behavior in general, and Jack Sparrow in particular, I bet it's his fault Will is on the Flying Dutchman."

The Sheep Detectives (2026)
“That’s the problem with you nearly immortal types,” I said. “You couldn’t spot a pop culture reference if it skittered up and implanted an embryo down your esophagus.”
There's a recurring element in Dresden Files in which Jim Butcher will use pop culture references as a means of demonstrating whether a character should be considered good, likeable, or trustworthy.
Harry Dresden makes a lot of pop culture references. References are fun, and they help the reader feel more related to Harry. Likewise, these references are how Harry can relate to his friends. It's one of the primary ways he enjoys joking around with them.
However, the antagonists of the series, the vast majority of whom are supernaturally long-lived beings, have not bothered keeping up with popular works and media of the last century. They haven't bothered maintaining connection with the everyday human experience, the art and pastimes most people have in commonality and can bond over.
Madeline Raith has never heard of Buck Rogers. Nicodemus doesn't know who Peter Parker is. Drakul doesn't even know how baseball works.
This lack of interest in pop culture is equated to a lack of interest, connection, or care, for humanity in general.
References can be a signal for the reader that a character is someone to be trusted or empathized with before the story even confirms it.
Thomas wears a Buffy the Vampire Slayer shirt a whole book before he's revealed to be Harry's family in Blood Rites.
In Skin Game, Harry and Goodman Grey have a good-natured back and forth about the film The Black Hole several chapters before it's revealed they were secretly working together. Fittingly, the reveal itself is initiated by a reference, with Harry using "Game over, man. Game over" as a signal to drop the facade.
We learn Mab has been to rock concerts and Disneyland in Cold Days, the same book in which we're hit with the line, "I was mortal once, you know." Going further back, the first time Harry met Mab in Summer Knight, he makes a comparison to Godzilla, but he can't actually tell whether she understood the reference, which, in hindsight, she likely did.
And then we have Marcone, who, when faced with one of Harry's references, opts to ignore it.
"'Elvii?'" Marcone inquired. "The plural could be Elvises, I guess," I said. "But if I say that too often, I start muttering to myself and calling things 'my precious,' so I usually go with the Latin plural." Marcone did smile that time. It was a cool expression. Tigers with full stomachs wear smiles like Marcone's when they're watching baby deer play. "Ah. I hope you can find something to suit your tastes tonight."
and
“Do you at least have a gun?” I asked. “Maybe you can distract her.” “I have a knife,” Marcone said. “Jusht like a gangshter,” I said. “Bringsh a knife to an apocalypshe fight.” Marcone gave me a level look and then said, in a much more conversational tone, “Honestly, Dresden. If you used your mind half as much as your mouth, you’d be running the place by now.”
John "Who do you think I am, I am not a charitable organization, I am a professional monster" Marcone, does not directly acknowledge the reference. He won't go as far as to pretend he's not at least passingly familiar with Gollum, or that he never watched The Untouchables. But he refuses to respond or play off of it the way one of Harry's friends would.
Doesn't change the fact that he does get the reference though.
"everyone should get more aromantic" can appeal to tumblr's sensibilities but I genuinely think everyone should also get more asexual. I don't mean everyone stop having sex, what I mean is
Sex is not essential. You can live without it. Full stop.
Not having sex isn't shameful or a sign of failure. It also doesn't make anyone boring.
You are not entitled to having sex with anybody and nobody is entitled to having sex with you.
Sex is not what makes someone an adult.
Nobody's worth is defined by how much sex they have or don't have.
Sex is not equally important to everyone.
You can have fulfilling and happy relationships without sex.
You should only have sex on your own terms, not because you feel like you owe it to someone, or because you feel like you'd be incomplete without it.
Know your boundaries around sex and be firm about them. Know how to respect other people's boundaries.
The previous point also applies when it comes to discussing sex. If someone doesn't wanna talk about it or hear about it you have to back down.
Anything can be sexual but not everything has to be sexual.

No luck catching them sheep then?
I didn’t want to draw Danny and Nicolas but the small town in sheep detectives reminded me of hot fuzz so I made a doodle
the thing about fiber art that nobody tells you about is that every single kind of fiber art is a gateway drug to other kinds of fiber art.
Its night and little assumptions in the next chapter of The Old Lie won't make sense if I don't share with you guys a headcanon near and dear to my heart:
John Marcone and Georgia Bordon have a passive aggressive beef with each other. No. Hear me out.
In Fool Moon at least part of Marcone's efforts are undermined by a pack of college age werewolves. One of which might even be in his HOA.
"The safe place we were going to turned out to be a big house near the Gold Coast, not far from Marcone's own minipalace." FM Ch 26
We know Marcone is a criminal that is keeping himself busy in the a) seedy underground, b) legitimate business of Chicago, and c) the Barony of Magical Chicago.
Georgia is a part of at least 2/3. Her father is affluent enough to live there and have a second trophy wife.
We know Johnny can't really keep his comments to himself 24/7.
At some point Georgia's father has to be wonderi g why the hell his daughter knows their Mob Boss and why said Mob Boss keeps making weird ass comments to her. Has she been recruited? Why does John's secretary know her phone number?
Why do they keep going to the TV Wizard's old house that's a tax write off castle.
Why are they constantly in the same "traffic accidents".
