BUILDINGS, LIKE SOME PAINTING OF long lost civilization, history enveloped with ruin and overgrown nature in the wake of its nigh abandonment. there is a tragic beauty to the view, laden with missing culture, forgotten to the throes life as time continues on without discrimination. yet, perhaps to her, there is more than just wayward decay, something to be learned, which has drawn her to this place… and perhaps the other who approaches, the sound of footsteps in the distance hardly difficult to hear, even with her back turned. ❝ This ruin… some find difficulty to recall the significance to the people who once lived here—the things they cherished left behind, the memories they built. Abandoned as it may be, it’s still a city that tells tales. One of the departed; another as caution to those who yet live, ❞ she speaks, voice calm as she scans over the jagged skyline, all before turning to face the man.
purple eyes observe momentarily, taking in how the other presents himself. not an immediate threat, though people were always brimming with surprise, she has come to learn.
❝ … have you come to investigate, too? Or did you come here to take in the view? ❞ some simply wished to look on, to leave things as they are without question and know it exists, than uncover the mysteries hidden deep beneath the surface of what actually is. ❝ I’d planned to go below myself. But going together, we might be stronger for it. ❞
PERHAPS IT SHOULDN’T have been surprising that the Kingsglaive hadn’t gone unnoticed, given the eerie quiet of the environment. Even if one were alone, their own footfalls would ring in their ears. Ruins upon ruins surrounded them, evidence of a city which once was and which no longer had a name. It was clear that whatever tragedy had befallen this far-off section of the island had long passed, nature reclaiming all the eye could see.
Nyx approached warily as the woman spoke, maintaining distance, though she outwardly seemed lacking in hostility. She appeared to gauge him with the same discerning eye, as one who had seen their own share of troubles might. An outward lack of hostility meant little, this much he had learned long before setting foot in Spirale. People were always hiding parts of themselves until doing otherwise was in their favor.
But... She was right on the first count. Nyx had come out of curiosity: Just how far did this island reach, and what dangers did it hold? It had been discomforting to sit in his assigned quarters, stewing in his lack of knowledge. It was like being stuck in hostile territory; If he were going to be held captive here, the least he could do was familiarize himself with the cage.
“ ━━ Thought I’d stretch my legs a bit,” he quipped, glancing in her direction. Strength in numbers... Now that was a fair point. Neither of them had a reason to trust the other at all, but an extra pair of eyes was invaluable when delving deep into the unknown. His gaze lingered a moment longer before turning back to the path ahead, rolling his shoulder in preparation.
“You watch my back, I’ll watch yours. Deal?”
