How to use a Papa Orc: a Guide | part 1
English is not my native language, so there may be spelling and grammatical errors or strange word choices in the text.
TW: abandonment of a child, reader is a witch and she has a cold heart.
Read the prologue.
Summary: An orc asks a witch for permission to court her, but her heart is too cold. However, cold can melt under the right conditions.
A porcelain cup, the one from the set where all the dishes are decorated with a pattern of yellow peonies, which you were never allowed to touch, crashed to the floor. Mother looked at you in shock, her face as pale as marble.
"What?"
โ"An orc, mother." You replied with a giggle. "My heir's father is an orc. I'm sure she'll be a little green. Maybe she'll even have fangs? Or tusks?.."
โ
โOh yes, you were pleased with yourself. By seducing that tribe sentry, you got what wanted. But mother's reaction was far from what expected.
Mother was known for giving birth to many daughters from a variety of creatures from different planes of the infinite universe. The only exception was you, as had given birth to from a boring human father, but that was not the point. Seeing mother's expression, you briefly wondered if the orc might have been too unremarkable in her eyes. A shiver ran down spine. Her opinion held great significance for you, sometimes even too much so. Hands anxiously touched your growing belly.
โ"Don't you like green or...?"
โ
โAfter hearing failed attempt at a joke, mother sighed and looked at you with a gentle gaze. She waved her hand, and an imp collected the shards of the broken cup at feet.
โ
โ"Green is a beautiful color, dear. I'm afraid he'll come back and demand that we give him the child."
You've been running mother's words over, and over and over in your head throughout pregnancy. No, you weren't afraid of the orcs, but the idea of him coming to take daughters away annoyed you. And now, as you watch him dismount from his horse, mother's words resurface in memory, accompanied by the piercing cries coming from the basket.
The orc freezes, and so do you. For a moment, all can hear is a wailing sound that's a mix of a growl and a grunt cries. Eye twitches nervously. You practically shove the basket into the witch's hands and signal for her to go inside. Smile that same smile that captured this man heart and throw your arms around him, hoping he'll focus on your curves against him instead of the fading wailing.
Plan works. The orc's lips spread into an even wider and more foolish smile. He embraces you and lifts you off the ground. It's eerily reminiscent of a scene from a romance novel.
โ
โ"I've missed." He sets you back on the ground, and just seeing his adoring gaze makes feel like trouble is on its way. "I have something for you."
Almost tripping over own feet, he hurries to the horse, pulling from the saddlebag what you would call a belt. He hands it to you. The man's gaze is filled with hope, but realizing that you don't quite understand what doing, the orc takes something else from the pouch on belt. This object you know better - a ring, thick, without precious stones, adorned only with an unknown rune, and most likely crafted from non-noble iron. It looks rough, not at all beautiful, if it hadn't been for him offering it to you, you might have thought it was an insult.
โ"I want to court you, will you let?"
โ
โLips form another fake smile on their own and you give him your answer. The only correct answer a witch can give.
โ
โ"No."
He tilts his head to the side, as if hadn't expected this, hands with the ring and the belt still outstretched towards you. Your next words will be harsh. But right now, you want to set clear boundaries. Besides, he's already done part, given you daughters, and love is not something witch might need.
โ
โ"It was good with you, but that's it. The belt and ring..."
You want to add a little drama, to make him hurt, so that doesn't even dare to think about coming to you again. To do this, you glance at the ring, and lips curl as if you are disgusted by it.
โ
โ"...are nice. But need mountains of gold and land for me to really want to you. Come back when have something more valuable."
The words had the effect you wanted them to have. Face fell, he looked away and stood up abruptly. For a moment you even backed away, thinking he was going to hit, but the orc just turned around and taking horse by the reins walked away from your house. There were no requests to give him a chance or questions about why you were saying such things. He just left, taking the ring and belt with him.
To be continued?
