Some of my entries for this challenge do not have 'dragon' in their name and were chosen because they would be a cool dragon aesthetic, such as this Great Eared Nightjar
[img id]Painterly, cel-shaded digital art of an exuberant-looking Great Eared Nightjar perched on a leafy, isometric chunk of dark forest earth. The Great Eared Nightjar looks like a big fat barn swallow crossed with a great horned owl's mottled coloration. It has excessively large, bulging eyes but unlike a potoo, the eyes make it look cute and not constantly horrified. This bird has its mouth open like it's waiting for a mosquito to fly right into it. Iāve been loving spotting black crowned night herons in the city as theyāve been busy raising their fledglings in the trees above Lincoln Park Zoo. Had a go at drawing one! š¤
(A little birdie told me Iāll be vending this September at The Urban Birding Festival and will be bringing prints of this along with some new bird stuff⦠itās a ways off but Iām feeling inspired and excited about it!)

The birds of late summer look funny, they are either adorable goofy youngsters or awkward goofy looking molting adults. Molting means losing old feathers and growing nice new ones, and some species do it more dramatic than others. They are not sick, just using the nice warm temperatures to undergo the slow process of changing into fancy new fall attire š (Redbellied WP, House Finch, Blue Jay, Cardi, MoDo, RWBB, Grack)
Extraordinary circumstances led me to meet the silliest young Habicht you could ever imagine. I mean, this idiot made city centre home and would just sit there and look back at the very few passers-by who would notice and try to figure out what this thing was doing there.
Birds of prey are impressive, but I don't normally feel a strong connection with them. However, feelings are unpredictable, and in this case, this encounter with this goofy, clumsy guy will remain in my memory forever.
Never forget that an untouched patch of trees among concrete will bring life, wonderful wildlife, to any place. And yes, it was hot. š„µ
