[ Austin Butler, cismale, he/him ] - was that CAPTAIN HOOK I saw around town today? Nope, turns out it was RICHARD THORN, the THIRTY FOUR-year old HEAD OF THORN SYNDICATE who has lived in town for MOST OF HIS LIFE, ON AND OFF. I heard he has a reputation of being DISCERNING & BITCHY CONTROLLING. Let’s hope the killer doesn’t go after him next while being here in Grimmvale.
BASICS
Name. Richard Thorn. Nickname. Thorn, Rich, Richie, Hudd. Character inspiration. Michael Corleone (unfortunately), Anthony Bridgerton, Lucius Malfoy, Mr. Darcy, Blair Waldorf. Siblings. Two younger sisters. Occupation. Executive Chairman and CEO of Thorn International, a global shipping, ports, and logistics conglomerate; Head of the Thorn Syndicate. Pinterest board: [x]
HISTORY.
The lucrative inheritance snags Richard by the cuff on his way to a very different, much more carefree life. His parents flee the country in a matter of hours, intending to lay low for a little while. A little while becomes several months. Several months become signing documents at Thorn International, authorizing shipments in the morning, and rushing to his sister's middle-school admissions interviews in the evening. "You'll handle it" is a horrifying sentence to read on an anonymous Carribean Islands postcard at twenty two. Richard is five hours deep into ten stacks of paperwork at the Warehouse when he understands he's all alone with this thing, and that their family business is not, strictly speaking, a business at all. He has no idea what he is doing, and he cannot let anyone see it, and that is the birth of him. More lore on how, over those twelve years, he went from making mistakes to making the Syndicate his own, here.
PERSONALITY
Richard is educated, poised, outwardly immaculate, and tired down to the marrow. He is rarely rude without cause, though his definition of cause is generous. He loves his family and fights with his sisters with petty, ceremonial regularity. None of them has ever conceded a point, though Richard has on occasion paid for the consequences. He treats men as disposable and loses sleep at night wondering how to make them not so. Considers charm without copetence a minor social disease and hates immature and frivolous men; but also will get fed up and flee the state without notice to walk among sequoias for hours. He has very little idea how to express care in any sane way, but he will quietly remove the problem, settle the debt, see to the difficulty at your child’s school, and later deny, with some irritation, that he had anything to do with it at all. APPEARANCE.
Tall. Single-breasted two-button suits in charcoal, black-brown, and deep olive. Vetiver cologne. A low voice. Soft hair in a careful disarray. Reading glasses that he resents and only wears when alone. Signature full-length, old-world overcoats with gloves in the pocket. If forced out of formal wear, tailored trousers and a cashmere crewneck with a long coat anyway. tw: scar / injury / slightly graphic When he was twenty three, a warehouse confrontation turned physical, and Richard caught a blade in his bare hand. Not glamorous and not very effective, but sufficient enough to stay alive. The scar cuts across his palm and lower fingers, and while he still keeps full use of his hand, it aches in cold weather and makes him avoid writing anything more than a signature. There is a scar at the base of the throat, visible only if his shirt is open or his head turns at the right angle, left by a garrote that failed by the width of two fingers when he was twenty five.
