Sousei no Onmyouji had the perfect premise to be a pandering, mediocre disaster, and it turned out to be very decent, tasteful, and engaging instead.

It’s like, modern manga has this thing where you can be presented with very intriguing premises that turn out to be the dressing to an absolutely mediocre piece of media, and then you get presented with a premise that begs to be used for pandering garbage and then, whoopsie whoo, it’s used pretty damn nice.
