“Have you seen a tall man with dark hair dressed in a suit? He was supposed to be meeting me here…”

“There was one behind me a while back but I think he took  a different direction.”

“Why did you call me 12 at night to tell me a joke..? This has got to fucking stop.”

“Sorry I should’ve known you wouldn’t be into nerdy jokes.”

“Sounds like a lot of people are these days; a stressful time of year, is it not?”

“Feels like I’ve been trying to find a flat for years so you could say that.”

“Smile, okay. Sorry, I must sound like a right self centered bitch, jus’ my parents are weighin’ down on me ‘bout my flat. I’m Alexis, by tha’ way.” 

“Rhiannon. What about it? It’s difficult. I moved from South Africa and getting a flat here is so expensive. Smiling is the prettiest thing a girl can do!”

“I like chucking snow in peoples eyes. Not the reply you were expecting, huh?”

“I’ll have to get you back for that comment.”

“That’s cool.”

“Literally.”

“Until you get hat hair, but I bet it looks good on you.”

“Coming from you that’s quite a compliment.”

“Don’t…look at me like that…”

“Sorry chick, I was in a daydream.”

“Wha’ am I goin’ ta do? I hate havin’ ta try an’ work out problems tha’ seem too hard ta work out. This is all such a mess.” 

“Try smiling instead. It always makes you happier. I’ve seen people in Africa worse off than anyone around here. So just smile.”

“Could you just.. Budge, you’re sitting on my jacket.” He spoke as he tugged at the hoodie that the person in front of him had seemingly claimed their own.

“Budge? I don’t know what that means. You would like it back?”

“What did you do that for?”

“There was a spider on you.”

“No no, let me help you with that.”

“Really? Thanks. These suitcases are killing me. Especially outside in this cold. I love it, but it’s so different to what I’m used to. I don’t remember ever feeling much below 7 degrees but it must be about 2 out here.

Bennie secured the lock on the last of the pens before making her way back towards the house, a rejected lamb concealed in her jacket. From the space between the fields and the left side of the house, she was surprised to see a figure at the gate of the farm. She could go whole days without seeing another person if it wasn’t for also working at a local pub. Neither Bennie or her uncle were keen to entertain. She moved towards the figure slowly, wiped one hand on her overalls and furrowed her eyebrows together. “What are you doing here?” She asked in a slightly accusing tone. 

“Sorry I think I’m lost? I just moved here. Is this a farm? I must be miles from my house.”

James got out of the taxi and hauled out his suitcases. As he did, he dropped his wallet and sighed. “S-Sorry, please could you get that for me?” he asked a passerby before looking at who it was.

Rhi picked up the wallet and stared at it for a moment before realizing what she was doing. “Sorry, forgive me. World of my own. Here,” Rhiannon replied as she passed it back to its rightful owner.
