I miss you so.

People don’t stay together because they forget, people stay together because they forgive.

And sometimes I have kept my feelings to myself, because I could find no language to describe them in.

I want to talk about what happened without mentioning how much it hurt. There has to be a way. To care for the wounds without reopening them. To name the pain without inviting it back into me.

Mental pain is less dramatic than physical pain, but it is more common and also more hard to bear. The frequent attempt to conceal mental pain increases the burden: it is easier to say My tooth is aching than to say My heart is broken.

“I’m just tired. I’m tired all the time. I wake up, and I’m tired. I go to sleep, and I’m tired.”
