∟ Remember Me. Like I said before, Remember Me was probably one of the only games in 2013 that came with a solid storyline that was probably far better prepared for presentation than the gameplay itself. DONTNOD Entertainment put some kind’ve work and attention to detail into this game’s story that I haven’t quite seen done with other game that year. Granted, the story is spread out across different kinds of platforms (Facebook, a ARG website/Antoine’s Journal.com, tumblr, a comic that got no promotion, an e-book that should’ve been printed or a pdf download), but the events that are set up and lead into the consequences of the game’s story faced by Nilin (the protagonist) are incredibly solid. What starts off as a man’s (Nilin’s grandfather, Antoine Cartier-Wells) quest to achieve the ultimate form of human-connectivity with the “Sensen Engine” slowly begins to descend into a twisted vision of what he had in mind as the worst of human nature twists it into a violent tool used against its consumers, transforming into a form of addiction; a weapon used against the lower-class who suffer from a locale-specific war (European War) that separates most of Neo-Paris into classes (“Upper”, “Middle” and “Lower”). The consequences of the Sensen Engine comes to fruition in the form a sentient program named “H3O”, a practical “son” of Nilin’s because he was literally born of her misery as a child. Then you have Nilin (who’s a part of a group of people who want to rid the world of the Sensen and bring to light all of the dirty deeds committed by Memorize), fighting reclaim what was stolen from her when the people she used to live among (the higher class) capture her and wipe her of her memories, leaving her with an uncertain guide in her friend “Edge” to get her back to what triggered the events of her arrest. It’s not just a cyberpunk tale of rebellion, it also has a lot to do with Nilin and her estranged family, and primarily how they all overcome and want to fix the damage caused by her grandfather’s dream gone horribly wrong.

The Sensation Engine or Sensen is a digital device, an neck implant in its latest iteration, that interfaces primarily with the memory centers of the brain, but is also linked to other parts. It was originally invented by Antoine Cartier-Wells, the founder of Memorize.
