TO ALL MY MUTUALS, AND FOLLOWERS, "A VERY MERRY CHRISTMAS." BLESSINGS TO YOU, AND YOURS THIS HOLIDAY SEASON.
agreed
I used to program one of these. It was in our lab. Our group had a half-price supercomputer made by a lesser-known company and I managed to have it perform at the same level as the Cray.
Half the U.S. economy fits into a few metro areas
And let us see the map of where the food is produced to feed the people in these concentrated economic zones.
Microcomputing April 1984
A Hewlett-Packard "MS-DOS" computer received the feature review in this issue. You didn't have to actually touch the CRT glass to use its "touchscreen," but the invisible beams you broke only allowed for a "40 by 23 matrix," which wasn't quite even character-by-character selection. The TRS-80 Model 4P was also reviewed with an approving comment people would surely be buying it rather than the Model 4 desktop. One other article looked at a "subliminal message" system for the Commodore 64; Wayne Green's editorial took the subject quite seriously and offered warnings about it.
I used one of these. Yes, you could "touch" to control things by blocking the light beams going vertically and horizontally. It was way ahead of its time---too far ahead.

Of course this little thing is too simple and there are nuances to all of this...still, it is true. And in New Orleans a mayor renamed Lee Circle, took down a statue, and... the city is still at the top of the list for murders per capita and the streets are more pot hole than smooth road. We do these things that make some folks feel better and after they feel better, well, uh, er, nothing. Put a band aid on a broken leg.
Countries with more deaths than births in 2024
(by u/OppositeRock4217)
I like these maps on the web. This one is quite instructive as it shows those countries that have a real problem with declining health and declining birth rates.
There are several generations alive today who have never heard of an RC Cola and a Moon Pie. Don't even know what those two things are.
1982
This photo is tagged with 1982, but the kitchen decor and table and chairs are from the late 1950s or early 1960s. Note the AM/FM radio with the FM antenna pulled up high. Also the clock on the wall is electric with its cord hanging down to the electric outlet.
I can say that I actually saw a Lisa in operation. Very, very, v e r y s l o o o o o w

Classic Smith&Wesson wheelgun #S&W #revolver #sixshooter
The AM/FM radio in the home intercom and the portable TV in the kitchen. I saw several super bowls in this kitchen.
Stereo Review (1988)
I used to subscribe to Stereo Review. Great stuff.
I've programmed one of these
I owned this set in the 1980s

I well remember ComputerLand stores. I miss them. I guess the Apple Retail stores are our current version of these places.
“Baby, They don’t call me the king of the long wave for nothing.” Glenn tells his lady. “Seems it’s always been short wave to me” she thinks to herself.
This is a silly ad, but in Europe and Asia the multi-band radio was the standard. Far part the AM-FM-only found in America. This way you could listen to Voice of America, Armed Forces Radio, Radio Moscow, and the news broadcasts of the BBC and all the other European countries.
