My host sister Liza was only 5 when we first met. Today she is a beautiful, bright 22-year old, much like I was when I first arrived in Ukraine 17 years ago. Read my full story »
Now, with a family of my own and plenty of room to spare, we are welcoming Liza into our home, here in America. She arrives on September 14. Given recent events, I pray every day that she stays safe until that time. #StandwithUkraine
We are using the next few months to prepare for her arrival—renovating our home to give her a space of her own, researching things like medical insurance, a driver's license, and employment options. Nothing is easy and, in this economy, nothing is cheap. But we're excited to share our life and culture with Liza the same way her family did for me so many years ago.
I invite you to follow along on this grand adventure. If you have (kind) words of encouragement or advice, please share. I'll also be posting a few specific (material) needs in the future—a used car, mattress & bed frame, etc. If you can help in any way, please let me know. This is a new experience for us all and we hope to make the transition as easy as possible for Liza. Дякую (thank you) for all your help!
