pre-imperial garlemald is (?) to me, i don’t keep most of the lore straight in my head any longer but if there was anything past dirt and farmers and a loosely cobbled together nation, then i’d imagine there was royalty and then everyone else:
- that revolver is very ornate
- a thin ‘medical’ veil for sanitary purposes, see through and probably tinted like the astrologian veil.
- instead of a headpiece, that weird contraption attached to his glasses is hooked to his lapel instead
- some nice gloves, if only i could draw hands properly

many, including the crown prince of altair, viewed helios’s sworn fidelity to nero as a blight upon the vaux altair’s prestigious history of taking only true-blooded lovers, a feat that was becoming increasingly rare with each generation. many also chose to believe that helios was simply making a political move against the royal family by selecting a partner who was one of the crown’s greatest weapons-- and one of their greatest mistakes.
the news of helios taking nero as his Flagship’s first-in-command was further insult to altairian views due to nero’s status as a genomed-- and therefore a second-class and enslaved-- being.
at the end of their story, there were few who became close enough to the two to realize that their love for one another was genuine, and only one was able to witness the final act of sacrifice nero committed in order to save helios.
the boundless scholar also speculates in her journals that the nature of nero’s death also contributes to the oddity of his absence in the worlds and dimensions beyond the First.
the scholar, in her last notes upon the beings and places that reside in the World’s End, also speculates that nero’s sacrifice is why the Keeper of the Roses waits in his Arboretum as penance:
forever catching glimpses of nero slipping around each corner, the bright flash of his hair out of the corner of his eyes, his scent overpowered by the roses he tends to-- eternally waiting for the day nero’s reincarnation will come to join him in the new world.
additionally: the Keeper of the Roses sees herself as male when referring to her status as a reincarnation of helios, and female when referring to her current iteration in this world, but predominantly introduces herself as female otherwise.
of course my first foray into drawing on a tablet after three months of going without would culminate in suggestive doodles with questionable anatomy. mildly NSFW, hence the cut.

nemue. former principality, not fully cast down but relegated to mere guardianship over one man- something she considers menial taskwork, and something she resents
she has a year to make her charge repent of his sins or she’ll be stripped of her rank and her angelic status, so she follows him everywhere he goes. this is commonplace in this universe, so nobody really bats an eye when she gets horrendously angry and causes all the windows in a building to shatter. murdering people is apparently a hard habit to break. poor nemue
her charge’s sister is next in line to become the head of the gang, and nemue is extremely wary of her and her attempts to get friendly with the angel that’s been dogging her little brother so closely. somewhere along the lines the sister tries to keep nemue for her own means and cripples nemue with demonic magic so badly that her charge, who normally sees nemue as a mere annoyance, kicks half his sister’s lackeys’ asses to free her with the help of another two principalities who are extremely concerned with what new things humans have come up with to try and control the forces of heaven and hell
along the way, nemue and her charge discover that both angelic and demonic sides have been building up towards a war by proxy through humanity. obviously a war that’s been going on since humanity was created, but both sides have been leaking forbidden arcane knowledge into the human world in an attempt to weaken one another. humans with this knowledge obviously do not do things as expected and all hell (and heaven) breaks loose when humans begin gaining divine powers and rights.
