"hmm, you read my mind," renee smiled around the glass of her drink as she sipped. she had to shake her head in amusement as he continued to speak. oh, she may have missed him more than she realised; their humour was so evenly matched. it was what had made them friends in the first place.

"as long as you don't drink all of it too fast. we need to pace ourselves now." renee commented with a chuckle of her own as she remembered their past drinking sessions. the times they would turn up to tv a little bit still buzzed were countless. not that they could do that now. they were getting too old, not that renee was ready to fully admit that. still, she had enough in her for this fight. everything she had worked hard for was not going to be snatched by a little daddy's girl.

"oh, for sure. i doubt she even knows what class is." a beat of comfortable silence washed over the pair and it wasn't long before their food was being settled in front of them. smiling her thanks, renee only relaxed even more. her fingers moved over the screen as she typed a comment on the latest post.

when his food arrived, rj enjoyed it with particular delight. it wasn't only because the food was that good, mostly, he was truly enjoying himself like it hadn't happened to him in a long time. and he hated that it was because of renee's presence, when for so long they had been sworn enemies, unable to look each other in the eye without a fight surging. but he was also grateful, deep down, because he missed her. and he didn't need to say it openly for it to be clear.

the real reason why he went to her with their "problem" wasn't only because he thought she was scary enough to solve it. well, that was partly true; he knew she was someone who'd get it done without losing time. mostly, though, it was because he knew she'd listen. despite the years of distance, misunderstandings and constant fights, somehow he knew she'd be there.

"so," he finally said, cleaning his mouth with the napkin. "to recap our current plan: we need passing costumes and a makeover for the party, and then we need to tackle more juicy information. I truly think we can pull this!" he was even giddy, letting out a giggle, shaking his head. "it's not like I had doubts, but... I guess what I am trying to say is thank you. we don't have to do the thing where I say a thing, and you say another thing, and someone cries, and then we have like a moment, but this means more than ruining someone's dirty career to me."

as he recapped their plan of action; renee began to nod her head. her mind racing with the many thoughts of how they would make their entrance. "we are a well oiled machine together," renee couldn't help but hum around her straw. her attention flickered to her phone for a moment before placing it down screen first. she would do her own research later.

her eyes flickered up to him as he spoke; a look of vulnerability flashing over her face. "This was your plan, I should be thanking you." she should and still the words never left her. as ever, she was her own worst enemy if she was truthful. still, she gave him one of her best easy going smiles. any left over tension between the two of them was slowly falling away; the walls that she had created were not as tall now.
