Do you smell fudge?

“Mm.” Voice a low hum, Rip couldn’t deny the way Gideon’s words comforted him, and he dipped his head to hide a smile as if he had any hope of hiding away from him. “That’s one of the nicest things I’ve ever heard.”

Gideon was always there, and Gideon always knew everything. She would know he was smiling, just as she would know that he meant every word he said.

It wasn’t often that he was so honest, but certain things forced it onto him. One of those things– people, because Gideon had stopped being a thing to him a long time ago– was, without a doubt, the AI he spoke to now.

“Well…” He let out a soft huff. “I’ve, er, got to pack. I can’t think of any reason to prolong it.

“I… thank you for this, Gideon. Thank you for listening, like you always do.”

What was it about Gideon’s well-wishes that made his chest ache? Rip wasn’t a fool– he knew it was the sentiment that he always had, the sentiment that being with the rest of the Legends had encouraged in him– but Christ, goodbyes were always hard, just… never like this. “Oh,” he sighed, “I imagine it’ll be easier to find some approximation of it without my blood pressure rising so much so often.

“As soon as I finish building the new ship,” he said, “I’ll contact you. I promise.

“You’re… the best friend I’ve ever had, Gideon.”

A lot of that stress he brought on himself, deciding to become an avenging angel and going after Savage and putting together the Legends, Funnily enough, the latter had a tendency to fail upwards, luck was on their side for the most part if they continued to do that then Rip could live a quiet life and not have to clean up their mess.

Flynn frowned for a moment. He was in full-on panic mode, but his brain was also working overtime to find a way out of this. Taking Eve’s hand in his, he locked eyes with her, silently communicating the need for her to trust him. Then, he jumped right through the solid wall. He had fortunately had with him an artifact that when worn would allow him to pass through solid barriers. He’d been examining it earlier, before their mission, when he’d gotten distracted. “Let’s go rescue our friends.”

Eve’s logical brain would have immediately said ‘no, this is a bad idea and look for another way out but they simply did not have time. Flynn took her hand and before she could question it further, the two made their way through solid concrete and ended up on the other side. 

She looked at the wall in shock then at her companion who was hurrying her along. “I kind of love you.”
